Dear neighbours,

Join Me & Toronto Police Service’s 32 Division for a Community Safety & Auto Theft Update Meeting on September 9th

While we have made some progress fighting the ongoing crisis of auto theft and home break-ins that have been occurring here in Eglinton-Lawrence and across the City of Toronto, I continue to hear from you and I remain committed to solving this crisis.

For years, I have been writing to our Provincial and Federal governments demanding that they update their antiquated laws and for additional resources for our law enforcement agencies to have the tools necessary to combat this increase in violent crime.

On Monday September 9th, 2024 — you are invited to join me, alongside members of Toronto Police Service’s 32 Division for a Community Safety & Auto Theft Update Meeting.

This meeting will allow you to hear what new tools Toronto Police have been deploying in order to combat auto theft in our community; and what you can do to work together with me to help advocate for the changes we need.

The Leaside Garden Society invites you to their annual Flower Show on Saturday, September 14th, 2024, from 12:30pm – 3:30pm at the Leaside Library, 165 McRae Drive.

This year, the Fruit and Vegetable categories are open to all community members, not just LGS members! Explore an array of beautiful flowers, potted plants, vegetables, and creative garden designs. UrbanToronto: Height bump to 40 storeys at 589 Eglinton

“A proposed development at 589 Eglinton Avenue East has successfully navigated the planning process, securing approval from the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) for its settlement offer with the City of Toronto from March, 2024. Designed by TACT Architecture for Terracap Management, the approved plan increases the height from 35 to 40 storeys.”, Urban Toronto

Proposed development includes 61, 63, 65 & 67 Mann Ave, and 589, 591, 593 & 595 Eglinton Avenue East.

Meanwhile, 1618 Bayview Avenue is under new ownership and undergoing a significant renovation. The former tenant, Mexico Lindo, was forced to close in March, due to fire damage.

Man vs Lobster returns to McSorley’s on Saturday, August 17th. Arrive early for live lobster cooked to order, served with potato salad, corn on the cub, melted butter, silly bib and a beer on draft — 5:00pm until sold out.

Evergreen Brick Works severely impacted by record rainfall

Toronto experienced record-breaking rainfall Tuesday, leading to widespread flooding throughout the city. Evergreen Brick Works was among the hardest-hit areas, but thanks to the quick response of dedicated staff, including ensuring the safety of 113 young campers, there have been no reported injuries.

Despite being designed with flood resilience in mind, the extreme weather still impacted the site. Evergreen Brick Works (550 Bayview Avenue), known for its greenways, cisterns, and permeable surfaces, is now in need of support to cover the costs of clean-up and recovery. The site will remain closed until further notice.
