Sherwood Park Residents’ inaugural meeting recap

A quick update was circulated with a summary of the Sherwood Park Residents’ association inaugural meeting. It was held (via Zoom) on January 15th and was ably co-hosted by Jane Auster from the South Eglinton Davisville Residents’ Association (SEDRA) and Geoff Kettel from the Leaside Residents’ Association (LRA). There were about 40 residents in attendance to participate in the discussion of the many planning issues facing the area and a consensus that a local residents’ association was necessary to organize opposition.

Next Steps:

A small group of local residents volunteered to meet as a steering committee to organize the next general meeting. The next meeting is set for early February. Both SEDRA and LRA are available to provide administrative support to the steering committee.

FoNTRA: Call To Action for all Sherwood Park Residents

Special inaugural meeting for Sherwood Park Residents

Dear Sherwood Park Resident:

This is to invite you to a meeting (to be held virtually) on Thursday January 12 at 5-6pm to discuss development in the Sherwood Park area. There are several large development projects coming to the Sherwood Park area bounded by Mount Pleasant, Bayview, Eglinton and Sherwood Park (see map below). Active projects include the following:

586 Eglinton Ave East, 1840 Bayview (ESSO), 2-20 Glazebrook. These are large hi-rise projects which will have a total of over 1,000 units. This is in addition to active projects on the other side of Eglinton and Bayview like 537-543, 589 Eglinton (South Eglinton Davisville Residents Association area) and 1837-45 Bayview and 1779-1787 Bayview – Leaside LRT station overbuild plus quads (Leaside Residents Association area).

It is important that residents be involved in the application review process and this is best accomplished through a Residents Association (RA). Unfortunately there is currently no active RA in your area.

We hope you are interested and are able to be involved. The meeting on Thursday, January 12 is being arranged to discuss the issues and help you to get organized. If you cannot attend this meeting but would like to be involved, please let us know with the email link HERE.

Registration is required to attend the meeting.

O&B’s Babel Restaurant shuttered on December 31st

Oliver & Bonacini’s Babel restaurant at Bayview and York Mills closed their doors for good on New Years Eve. Despite their Michelin Guide recommendation in 2022, their farewell message insinuates that the pandemic restrictions caused too many disruptions for their high end restaurant to survive.

Join Johnny Strides on a walk from Yonge Street to Bayview

Have you been avoiding Eglinton Avenue because of the Metrolinx construction? There is a genre of Youtube account that takes you for walks, hikes, bicycle rides or drives in major cities and exotic places all over the world. The “Johnny Strides” Youtube account focuses on walking, cycling, transit videos and livestreams in the City of Toronto.

The Bulldog enjoyed his walk on January 2nd, 2023 aptly named “Eglinton Crosstown Nightmare & Bayview”. He started outside of the Cineplex Cinema at Yonge and Eglinton, strided eastward along Eglinton Avenue East, pausing briefly to preview the new Mount Pleasant Station, then he made his way over to our favourite street, Bayview Avenue continuing south until he hopped on the Bayview 11 bus at Millwood Road. We thought you might like it too. Grab a coffee and enjoy the journey.

Happy New Year! 🥂

Millwood Melt closing mixer happening on New Year’s Eve

The mixer will take place on Saturday, December 31, 2022 between 11:00am – 3:00pm.

Guys, we miss you all so much! You made the Melt such a special place, and it’s been feeling empty around here without you.

Since we didn’t get the chance to say goodbye properly when we closed back in September, we’d really love to see you in person and thank you for letting us be a part of your lives and teaching us the value of kindness, loyalty, and laughter in building strong friendships.

So, come say farewell and reminisce with us! We’ll be giving away coffee and cookies – and hugs – to carry us all into the new year. Come take pictures of your favourite things in the shop to remember it by. We’d love to take a picture with you, too, for our shared memories. Let’s close out 2022 together, with big smiles, bursting hearts, and good wishes for the future! xoMillwood Melt Facebook Page
