It’s been a busy day in the neighbourhood for emergency services. Toronto Fire Services have tended to 4 different traffic collisions in our area this afternoon.
One of the fender benders included the spiked wheels of a fuel truck puncturing the side of a u-turning Mercedes at Bayview & Millwood. All the people involved appeared to be okay from what we could see, but the Benz looked like Jaws took a bite out of it.

Carols By Candlelight — Northlea United and Leaside United have collaborated once again to bring you beautiful music with twice the enjoyment. On Sunday, December 4, 2022 at 7:30 pm, both choirs will perform at Leaside United. Then on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at 7:30 pm, they will perform again at Northlea United.
Caroling in the Pines Saturday is December 10 at 7:00pm, featuring the Metropolitan Silver Band at Northlea United Church.
Toronto’s Wintergarten Orchestra, 11 well-known musicians who have played with the greats, perform cabaret music from Paris, Berlin and New York from the 20s and 30s. Award winning actors and singers Ted Atherton and Tanya Wills perform in English, French and German. Vintage clothes and dancing encouraged! The Smokeshow BBQ and Brew, (744 Mt. On November 30, 2022, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., the City of Toronto will be holding a virtual meeting to discuss a Zoning By-law Amendment Application for 55-75 Brownlow Ave and an Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendment application for 90-110 Eglinton Ave East. # 1 – Proposal for 55-75 Brownlow Avenue
This proposal by developer Menkes calls for a Zoning By-law Amendment Application for three residential towers, at 45, 40 and 35 storeys, including two 6-storey base buildings with a total residential gross floor area of 82,447.9 square metres, with a 426.4 square metre park. A total of 1162 residential dwelling units are proposed, inclusive of 121 rental replacement units. There are 192 residential parking spaces proposed in a 3-level underground garage. (Important! This development dovetails with a neighbouring proposal by Bazis at 750 Mt. Pleasant, both of which involve the future of Eglinton Public School, at the corner of Brownlow and Eglinton. # 2 – Proposal for 90-110 Eglinton Avenue East
An Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendment application by developer Madison Group proposes to allow the construction of a two-tower mixed use building at 57 and 59 storeys on the north side of Eglinton Ave west of Redpath. Learn more.

Agnes Campbell Macphail (1890-1954) was once described as “the most important woman in public life that Canada has produced in the 20th century.” The Agnes Macphail Award was established in January 1994 by the former Borough of the East York Council. The award recognizes the connection of the East York community to the causes Agnes Macphail championed in her long and distinguished career. The recipient is recommended to Toronto City Council by the East York Agnes Macphail Recognition Committee.

Not long after the opening of GoodGood at the north-east corner of Yonge & Davisville, the company has shut the doors. They have, in fact, closed all five of their locations — Queen and Bathurst, St. Clair and Dufferin, Adelaide and Spadina, the Esplanade near the St. Lawrence Market and, the most recent addition to their portfolio at Yonge and Davisville. A November 20th message on their social media says “GoodGood will cease operations effective immediately. We are incredibly proud of the work we accomplished. There has been nothing more rewarding than seeing the Toronto community discover and share their love for emerging makers with their friends & family. A massive thank you to our friends, family, and the Toronto community. We could not be more grateful for your support.”

A fall update from Children’s Garden School
CGS had another amazing Terry Fox Walk this year! We braved the chilly weather to walk together, and everyone showed their CGS spirit by encouraging each other and not giving up. We were so impressed by our wonderful students and their families who came out to support us. In the weeks leading up to the Terry Fox Walk, we were fortunate to have a visitor from the Terry Fox Foundation come to tell us all about what is done with the money we raised and how it is used to help people.
CGS is so grateful to our wonderful community for raising an incredible $22,000! We can’t wait for next year’s Terry Fox Walk!
CGS recently had our annual Mental Health and Wellness Day. This initiative was started during the pandemic to ensure that we were making our mental health a priority and helping to encourage those around us to do the same. Our classes all participated in wellness promoting activities throughout the day, such as yoga, meditation, artistic activities, and making sensory jars. This day reminds us to take the time to reflect on how we are feeling and what we can do to feel our best. Mental health and wellness will continue to be a priority at CGS throughout the year and we look forward to continuing these conversations with our students.

The Leaside Sports Hall of Fame is hosting their 2022 Induction Evening & Celebration on Friday November 18th, 2022 at Leaside Memorial Gardens (William Lea Room), catered by Grill Time. Jayna Hefford will be the Keynote Speaker. Jayna Hefford is one of the most decorated Canadian Olympians of all-time.

Jayna won multiple medals at the Winter Olympics and IIHF World Women’s Championships as well as titles in the National Women’s Hockey League and Canadian Women’s Hockey League. Jayna helped Canada win four-straight Olympic gold medals from 2002 to 2014 and famously scored the gold-medal winning goal at the 2002 Winter Olympics. At the professional club level across three leagues, she scored 439 goals in 418 competitive games including a CWHL record 44 goals in 2008-09. Jayna was selected as the 6th female in history to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on June 26, 2018 and in 2019 she was named an Order of Hockey in Canada recipient. Raised in Kingston, Ontario – her childhood #15 jersey has been retired by the Kingston Minor Hockey Association and hangs from the rafters in all of their arenas. Jayna is a resident of East York.
