A thread of 22 comments on Facebook now deleted discussed the story and pictures posted by a North Leaside resident about the young man seen here. He jumped over a fence and “made himself comfortable” in the backyard. “My husband went out and asked him to leave. He went without much protest, straight toward the house across the street. When he saw me taking pictures he turned westbound on Donlea. I filed a police report.” The lady of the house continued: “He was rummaging through our things on our deck. I was too scared at that moment to ask about his well-being, as he was trying to steal from us. He is probably sick and needs help, but in those few minutes I could only think about the safety of my children.” Some of those posting said they think he has been seen panhandling near Leslie St. and Highway 401.

Three of the four children of Danish billionaire Anders Holch Povlsen died in the Sri Lanka bombing attack, according to local media reports. The family was visiting the country over the Easter holiday. The names of the children have not been released at this time. Holch Povlsen is one of Denmark’s richest men, being the owner of the clothing chain Bestseller and the biggest single shareholder in online clothing retailer ASOS. He is also the largest private landowner in the U.K., according to media stories.

Health Canada Sunday shut down the Imperial Tobacco Company pop-up vaping operation in Dundas Square, the wildly magnetic location for teens and tweens at the corner of Dundas and Yonge Sts. The government says Imperial, under the trade name of its vaping subsidiary, Vype, was violating its prohibition on lifestyle vaping ads. Among the attractions at the Vype pop up were stylish young women dressed in silver. Vype was created by Imperial in 2016 as an inducement to those who smoked tobacco to quit that habit. Many however say the vaping industry is intent on recruiting young non-smokers to that habit. Imperial Tobacco is a subsidiary of British American Tobacco (BAT) with head offices in London.

An apparent domestic argument at an apartment unit near Victoria Park Ave and Parma Court Sunday morning was the prelude to a stabbing and serious fall from the residence. During the argument a woman attacked a man in the groin or genitals several times. He escaped and called for help. Shortly after that a woman identified as Deidre Martin, 42, of Toronto fell or jumped some distance to the ground. Both persons are being treated for serious injuries.

The husky burglar and thief of Apple computer equipment from downtown businesses is back. The man is well known to police of four Divisions, including 53, for his careful break and enters designed to net him Apple computer products  A release Sunday notes that he targets older buildings and gains entry with a crowbar to force doors. He has been doing this on an apparent schedule since 2016 during the summer and fall months. Maybe he’s a snowbird. The photo montage above was released by the police last October. He is described as 6’0″-6’2″, heavy build, 220-240 lbs., clean-shaven, with short brown hair. He dresses well and blends in with regular crowds. He is agile and stands out due to his size. The 46th Annual Beaches Lions Club Parade was held Sunday along Queen St East. And the Appletree Easter Egg Hunt and photo occasion with the Easter Bunny took over June Rowlands Park at the Sharon, Lois and Bram Playground. Happy Easter all.

Early morning call to Regent Park

A man has died from injuries from a fire in his rental unit in Regent Park early Sunday. The man, said to be middle-aged, lived alone. No cause is yet known. The Toronto Community Housing Corporation said that the fire alarm system inside the building was functioning properly. The spokesperson said that staff with the TCHC will be in the building Sunday “to support tenants and assist with the response to the fire.”

Out for a stroll and some crime in what appears to be Davisville Village. Is one a woman?

Police say two brazen burglars broke into a home near Bayview and Eglinton Ave. when no one answered the bell but then encountered the owner inside. They fled and no further harm was done. This occurred Friday, April 5 about 7.20 p.m. Suspect #1 is described as white, 5’11”, 28 – 30, medium build, brown hair, with a brown goatee/beard. He was wearing a blue hooded sweater with white writing, black pants, and white running shoes.

IS ONE A WOMAN?

Suspect #2 is described as male or female, slim build, with an unknown complexion. This suspect was wearing a black jacket, black hat, brown leather backpack, blue pants, black/grey sneakers. It’s notable perhaps that the suspect appears to be wearing heeled boots.

Both the South Eglinton Ratepayers and Residents Association and the Moore Park Residents Association will hold their Annual General Meeting on Tuesday April 30. Ward 11 Councillor Mike Layton will give an address titled Big City, Small Council to the MPRA.

Toronto Police have issued a public notice Saturday about events at Scotiabank Arena Sunday. Traffic will be further restricted and security enhanced for the 3 p.m. playoff Game Six between the Leafs and Bruins. At 7 p.m. a tailgate party will begin in Jurassic Park outside the arena in advance of the Raptors and Orlando Magic game. Road closures and restrictions will begin at noon and remain in effect until approximately 11 p.m.:

York Street closed between Lake Shore Boulevard and Front Street
Bremner Boulevard closed east of Grand Trunk Crescent
Area for accessibility pick-up and drop-off on Bay Street near Gate 1
Area for accessibility for residents/business located on York Street north of Lake Shore Boulevard

Area residents and businesses have been provided security passes. Police, in partnership with the Scotiabank Arena, as well as the City of Toronto are encouraging people to use public transit or other carpool options.
