The first legal pot shop in Toronto is ready to open its doors Monday morning. It’s at 202 Queen East if you’re in a rush. Another such store, Ameri, may or may not open at 20 Cumberland Ave. A Toronto lawyer, Caryma Sa’d, accompanied by colleagues, erected a tent outside the Queen St. address in order to be the first to make a purchase there. One person was critically injured when an SUV was struck by Via Rail Train 76 from Windsor to Toronto Sunday. The collision occurred at the Kiel Dr. crossing, which is protected by gates and lights. It’s not clear how the vehicle got onto the tracks. The train and passengers were delayed five hours. Other trains were also delayed. People in Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick will be paying more for gasoline and heating fuel Monday when the federal government’s carbon tax begins in provinces that refused to impose their own emissions pricing. There are many uncertainties about the impact of the federal tax but it appears that regular gasoline may increase by as much as 4.4 cents per litre.

An Edmonton woman who says she thought she had signed up for unlimited Canada-wide calling is dealing with a $5,000 bill from Bell Canada. The CBC report here says it was run up by her teen son as he talked to a girlfriend living some 150 km away. CBC
No winning ticket was sold for the $7 million jackpot in Saturday night’s Lotto 649 draw. The guaranteed $1 million dollar prize went to a ticket holder in Ontario. The jackpot for the next Lotto 649 draw on Apr. 3 will be approximately $10 million.
There is a rainfall warning for Toronto with the possibility of light snow Saturday night. Periods of rain will occur with amounts of 25 to 40 likely by this evening. Snowfall accumulations of 2 to 4 cm are possible in some areas. Daytime temperatures are forecast to be above freezing, melting snow fairly quickly.
The Rolling Stones are postponing their latest tour, which included one stop in Canada, so lead vocalist Mick Jagger can get “medical treatment” for an unspecified condition. The legendary rock band, known for classics such as Satisfaction and You Can’t Always Get What You Want, announced Saturday that Jagger, 75, was informed by doctors “he cannot go on tour at this time, as he needs medical treatment,” but that his prognosis is good. “The doctors have advised Mick that he is expected to make a complete recovery so that he can get back on stage as soon as possible,” the statement said. The group was supposed to kick off its No Filter Tour in Miami, Fla. on April 20 and was slated to perform in the GTA at Burl’s Creek Event Grounds in Oro-Medonte on June 29.
Many stories appearing Saturday say the Ontario government is considering a change to the license plate slogan which has appeared on plates since 1982. Yours To Discover may be replaced by Open For Business on new plates. In 1973, Ontario plates were emblazoned for the first time with a motto: Keep It Beautiful. One source, Global News says, it has seen documents which say: “This initiative will see us refresh a license plate design that’s been relatively unchanged since the 1960s and depending on the slogan chosen — help to rebrand Ontario as a business-friendly province.” Research indicates that the only slogan on plates before 1973 (as above) was the word Confederation in centennial year, 1967. The NDP told Global News the change was “a bizarre ego-driven attempt to turn every licence plate into a Ford vanity plate.”
