No winning ticket was sold for the $7 million jackpot in Saturday night’s Lotto 649 draw. The guaranteed $1 million dollar prize went to a ticket holder in Ontario. The jackpot for the next Lotto 649 draw on Apr. 3 will be approximately $10 million.

There is a rainfall warning for Toronto with the possibility of light snow Saturday night. Periods of rain will occur with amounts of 25 to 40 likely by this evening. Snowfall accumulations of 2 to 4 cm are possible in some areas. Daytime temperatures are forecast to be above freezing, melting snow fairly quickly.

Mick Jagger “prognosis good”

The Rolling Stones are postponing their latest tour, which included one stop in Canada, so lead vocalist Mick Jagger can get “medical treatment” for an unspecified condition. The legendary rock band, known for classics such as Satisfaction and You Can’t Always Get What You Want, announced Saturday that Jagger, 75, was informed by doctors “he cannot go on tour at this time, as he needs medical treatment,” but that his prognosis is good. “The doctors have advised Mick that he is expected to make a complete recovery so that he can get back on stage as soon as possible,” the statement said. The group was supposed to kick off its No Filter Tour in Miami, Fla. on April 20 and was slated to perform in the GTA at Burl’s Creek Event Grounds in Oro-Medonte on June 29.

Many stories appearing Saturday say the Ontario government is considering a change to the license plate slogan which has appeared on plates since 1982. Yours To Discover may be replaced by Open For Business on new plates. In 1973, Ontario plates were emblazoned for the first time with a motto: Keep It Beautiful. One source, Global News says, it has seen documents which say: “This initiative will see us refresh a license plate design that’s been relatively unchanged since the 1960s and depending on the slogan chosen — help to rebrand Ontario as a business-friendly province.” Research indicates that the only slogan on plates before 1973 (as above) was the word Confederation in centennial year, 1967. The NDP told Global News the change was “a bizarre ego-driven attempt to turn every licence plate into a Ford vanity plate.”

This fatal crash of one car apparently out of control early Saturday was at Lakeshore Rd. and Stavebank Rd. in Mississauga. The car collided with what appears to be a large curb or abutment, then struck utility poles and a building. The video above reveals how the vehicle was shattered into pieces. The driver was pronounced dead at hospital.

Cattle roam 401 at Hurontario St. /phil p @canuckcam

Westbound Highway 401 was closed near Hurontario St. Friday night as cattle roamed the roadway. OPP say that 12 cattle inside of a truck died as a result of a collision and some 12 or 13 cattle got loose. There was a collision but apparently no injuries. Westbound express and collector lanes on the highway were closed from about 11.30 p.m. but reopened fully by dawn.

The incident at Soudan and Forman Aves. which saw a woman lose it with a stop-sign cheater has prompted Mayor Tory to call for a redesign of streets and sidewalks. He told CTV: “This is a perfect example of a place where we need to redesign the streets so as to properly move the sidewalks out and otherwise try to manage the traffic going through what is a residential neighbourhood. I think it is just another lesson of how much work we have to do in order to make the City more pedestrian friendly.” The mayor also said that while there is no evidence that the vehicle involved was speeding, it is clear that “adequate attention” was not being paid by the driver.

Ward 11 Councillor Mike Layton tweeted that the raging behaviour of the mother was something any parent would probably feel. “If I was put in her place, I don’t know what I’d do, but it wouldn’t be done quietly. What I do know, driver should have stopped, second driver should not have proceeded and any of the drivers should have gotten out to make sure the parent and child were okay,” he wrote. The incident occurred in Ward 15, held by Jaye Robinson. The video has more than 26,000 views at midday Friday and 145 comments. The mom does not fare well with those commenting. Veteran CBC Queen’s Park reporter and insider Mike Crawley writes Friday that there is an argument to made be for the Ford government approach to subways. Crawley says the financial advantage of provincial ownership of subways is Ontario’s power to amortize the capital cost, something the City cannot do. Under this financing model, when the province carries the subway construction cost on its books, the taxpayer’s transit dollar would in theory go further. Mike Crawley
