The elaborate satirical parade held at the Viareggio festival this weekend is well worth a look. Viareggio is on the Italian Riviera a short drive from Florence. It would be extremely pleasant right about now.

Rerouting O’Connor sends Golden Mile plan into confusion

Scarborough Community Council forgot O’Connor Dr. is 100 percent west of Victoria Park Ave.

Years of plotting to redevelop the Eglinton Ave. Golden Mile in keeping with its enormous new value when the LRT is finished seem to have been thrown into confusion. The cause is a plan to reroute O’Connor Drive away from Eglinton Ave. and send it eastward to Birchmount Ave. The unseen problem is that Scarborough Community Council, which came up with the plan, overlooked the lurking presence of North York and Toronto and East York Community Councils to the west of Victoria Park Ave. O’Connor Dr. is 100 percent outside of Scarborough. Rerouting O’Connor would require property purchases inside North York and Toronto and East York. It happened by stealth at the Eaton Centre, Union Station, on the outside of Rogers centre and many other places. Fans are delighted and are burning up social media with their comments.

Hope springs eternal on Coxwell Ave as Shamrock Bowling, an East York landmark, gets set to open again Thursday, February 28. This time it will have food and dancing as well as five-pin action. The new name is Shamrock Bowl and Restobar. Nice. It has a food menu and beer, wine and liquor offerings ranging from Margaritas to Jim Beam. The legendary Shamrock dates from the 1950s but has been dormant since 2011 despite efforts by real estate agent Peter Knox the find an operator in 2017. The third Toronto Polar Plunge is Saturday Sir Casimir Gzowski Park, 1751 Lakeshore Boulevard West. Toronto Police members of prominent in this charitable benefiting the Special Olympics. A release says TPS members are proud supporters of the plunge, which is organized by the Law Enforcement Torch Run. Check-in for participants will be at 11 a.m., with opening ceremonies, including remarks from Chief Mark Saunders starting at 11:30 a.m. The plunge will be taking place at noon.

Yonge line closed from St. Clair and Lawrence on weekend

The Line One Subway will be closed Saturday and Sunday between Lawrence and St Clair stations while Metrolinx crews continue construction of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, which is scheduled to open in 2021. Shuttle buses will run along Yonge St., stopping at each station along the route. At Lawrence, Eglinton and Davisville stations, customers can get on and off shuttle buses on Yonge St. At St Clair Station, customers board inside the bus bay and exit on St. Clair Ave. E., outside the station. As an alternative, customers can use the 97 Yonge bus and the University side of Line One.
