Two Toronto police officers are being investigated after their cruiser was demolished in an unexplained incident in a parking lot at Markham Rd and Sheppard Ave on January 1. Whispers in the department hint that the two officers in the vehicle were performing so-called “donuts” with the vehicle. This is a manoeuvre to make the car skid in circles.
An annual New Year’s Levee will be held Saturday by Don Valley West MPP and former Premier Kathleen Wynne at the Toronto Botanical Gardens, 777 Lawrende Ave East. The event is scheduled to run from 1 to 3 p.m.
Millwood Rd. has re-opened following the collision of a car with the side abutment of the rail underpass heading into East York. The road was closed from 5.30 a.m to after noon hour on Saturday. Ottawa said Friday that pressure from China will not affect Canada’s decision on whether or not telecom giant Huawei will be banned from supplying technology for next-generation 5G mobile networks. In commenting, Safety Minister Goodale noted that similar threats by the Chinese were made against Australia and New Zealand before they banned Huawei last year.

A widespread storm with daytime temperatures as low as 12C may drop ten cm of snow on neighborhoods across Midtown starting before dawn Saturday. There may be more snowfall closer to the lake and to the west of the GTA. Niagara, Hamilton and the escapement may see 25 cm. On the bright side, snowfall here in South Bayview may — may — be more like five cm. Windchill will make it quite dicey to be outside. The snow is expected to end Sunday morning but the cold and wind will stretch into Monday.
PC Scott Matthews posts photos of the scene of a fatal hit and run Thursday evening at Bathurst St. and Lennox Ave. a man of 60 is dead after he fell and was run over by a green truck. Matthews calls it a green garbage truck. Police say the driver may not know he hit someone.
