Long weekend events and road closures for July 30 to August 1:

North America’s largest Caribbean Carnival is happening this weekend! To accommodate the Toronto Caribbean Carnival, the following roads will be closed to vehicle traffic from 2 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, until 8 a.m. on Sunday, July 31:

• Lake Shore Boulevard West between Colborne Lodge Drive and Bathurst Street
• Strachan Avenue from Fleet Street to Lake Shore Boulevard West
• Jameson Avenue from Springhurst Avenue to Lake Shore Boulevard West
• Dunn Avenue at Springhurst Avenue
• Dufferin Street at Springhurst Avenue
• Fort York Boulevard between Fleet Street and Lake Shore Boulevard West
• The westbound Gardiner Expressway off-ramp to Dunn and Jameson Avenues (Exit 149)

Market Street continues to be closed from Front Street East to The Esplanade for I Heart Market Street activities.

Roads within High Park will be closed to vehicle traffic throughout the long weekend. More information about access to High Park is available on the City’s High Park webpage: www.toronto.ca/explore-enjoy/parks-gardens-beaches/high-park.

Toronto’s more than 1,500 parks and 11,000 hectares of ravine spaces are also open for fresh air and exercise daily, including The Meadoway from Brimley Road to Scarborough Golf Club Road. Investigative drilling work along Overlea Blvd, Thorncliffe Park Drive and Millwood Road will take place, to advance design concepts and other structural plans for the Ontario Line. Metrolinx will be drilling test holes and using a vacuum truck to gather information and evaluate underground conditions. The Community Notice states that the work could be starting as early as July 25, 2022. Intersections impacted: Overlea Blvd & Millwood Rd; and Overlea Blvd & Thorncliffe Park Drive

It’s always interesting to watch the renovation projects in the neighbourhood as they progress. This bungalow is reaching new heights as we watch the 2nd storey start to take shape.

Tuesday morning rush hour traffic was snarled on St. Clair Avenue, west of Yonge Street when a TTC streetcar collided with a garbage truck, knocking the truck onto its side. One would have to assume that the garbage truck was in the dedicated streetcar lane at the time of the collision. Toronto paramedics said three adults were assessed at the scene and two were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Also on Tuesday — commuters on the Bloor subway line were delayed due to an electrical fire at the Yonge/Bloor Station. TTC sent out shuttle buses, as subway service was shut down between St. George and Pape Stations.

Eglinton Crosstown LRT Construction Notice:

As early as Saturday, July 30, 2022, a new traffic configuration will be implemented at Mount Pleasant Road and Eglinton Avenue East. Traffic on Eglinton Avenue East will shift to the north side of the street and construction will move to the south side. The laydown area on Eglinton Avenue East between Taunton Road and Rawlinson Avenue will be removed and the traffic lanes will be reinstated. The crosswalk on the east side of the intersection will remain closed. The sidewalks on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East, at the Main and Secondary Entrances, will reopen. This traffic configuration is expected to remain in place through late Summer 2022. For more information, please review the complete notice.

Signs posted in the windows of 878 Eglinton Avenue East (north-west corner of Eglinton and Laird Drive) indicate that it will soon be home to a Hakim Optical. A Starbucks operated in the attractive 1940s era building from 2012 until 2020.

ActiveTO is still on, summer construction projects continue and there are some scheduled TTC closures to watch out for, so if you’re driving, be sure to check your route. You might want to take the car to the closest gas station today as well, as gas has dropped another 6 cents.

• Beaches International Jazz Festival – Performances will take place from Thursday to Saturday along Queen East from Woodbine to Beech avenues from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
• Toronto Carnival Run – The event will take place at Sir Casimir Gzowski Park on Saturday, one week before the Toronto Caribbean Carnival.
• Festival of South Asia – Gerrard Street East, between Coxwell and Glenside Avenues Saturday and Sunday.
• Fun Philippines Toronto Street Festival – Will take place at various venues along a one-kilometre stretch of Bathurst Street between Laurelcrest and Wilson avenues on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m until Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Taste of the Middle East Festival – Toronto’s fifth annual Taste of the Middle East Festival is returning to Nathan Phillips Square this weekend.

The Linton family has posted a notice to the Interior Care Facebook page, announcing the passing of the Interior Care founder Leonard Linton.

On behalf of Interior Care and the Linton family, it is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Interior Care founder, Leonard Linton. Len passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 19th with his loving wife, sons, daughter-in-laws and grandchildren by his side.

Len started Interior Care out of his home in 1963 and successfully built the company into one of Canada’s largest specialty cleaning companies. He was a pillar of strength in the Leaside business community and a key driving force behind its success, serving as president of the Leaside Business Park Association from 1993 until 2003. His tireless efforts were recognized by the city when they named a public park after him; Leonard Linton Park.

Len loved Interior Care, and considered everyone who worked here a dear friend. He built an incredible legacy, and it will continue to live on for decades to come.

A celebration of life will be held and arrangements will be announced once confirmed.

Full-length vehicles for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT are hitting the streets! The three-car testing began in early July, as part of project-wide testing. The aim is to not only debut the three-car trains, but also to test the signaling and train control system.
