BMO and CIBC both say they have heard from alleged cyber hackers that personal information has been stolen. But the banks are apparently not quite sure that anything has in fact been taken. BMO said it was working with authorities to assess the situaton and CIBC did not confirm a breach. Both banks said they were contacting customers and advising them to monitor their accounts and report any suspicious activity. What the strategy of thieves might be is a bit obscure.

Resident ponders broken water main site/South Bayview Bulldog

Large areas of Davisville west of Bayview Ave south of Davisville Ave are without water Monday after an early morning water main rupture on Bayview between Balliol St and Merton St. Homes on Bayview, Balliol and part of Merton over to Cleveland are dry. The ABC Academy on the corner of Bayview and Balliol is carrying water from Starbucks, as are residents. One helpful place still with water is St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church. Toronto employees suggest it will take the rest of the day to restore service. They said the call came in at 6.30 a.m. The southbound lane of Bayview is closed from Davisville to Merton

A special heat warning is issued for Toronto, the first such event of the season. It will be hot today and tonight as seen in the forecast below. These conditions can pose a health risk when you are not used to the heat.

Lester B Pearson High School and Dr. Marion Hilliard School will be closed Monday after discovery of a the body near of a young man on the high school property overnight.. Police say the victim was shot in the head. They are looking for one perpetrator. This is near Tapscott  Rd. and Washburn Way.

A man is said to be in life-threatening condition after his motorycle collided with a vehicle at Yonge and Isabella Sts. Sunday about 5 p.m. Yonge St was re-opened to traffic late Sunday.

A Toronto woman has received a $243 ticket from the City of Barrie for a dog-off-the-leash incident some 20 years ago at her cottage in the area. Thing is, the dog in question, Mitzy, did not even belong to Stacy Majchrowski. Mitzy belonged to a neighbor, the late Nick Nixon. Ms. Majchrowski remembers the day well. The bylaw officer gave her a ticket because Mitzy had strayed onto her property. She referred the man to her neighbor. Nixon also got a ticket and paid it, says Majchrowski. She thought the matter was finished. But the long arm of the dog police in Barrie now wants $243 including interest for that “offense” committed way back when Google was just a funny name for an obscure thing on the Internet. “At first I thought it was a joke,” Majchrowski told the CBC. “Well, no. No, it’s real.” And although lawyers think the circumstances of the ticket should invalidate it, they say Barrie is within the law to try to collect fines that old.

Left is Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian woman imprisoned in Tehran. She got five years in 2016 for “spying” and now a judge is telling Ratcliffe she is likely to be convicted again on charges of “teaching journalism.” High treason for sure. And please don’t bother asking for the evidence in either case. None of your business. Centre is the precious face of Marky Szutrin. He is desperately ill with leukemia. But friends in Toronto are working to help this brave little boy. Finally, Alan Bean, 86, used to recall his wonderment as he looked at earth from the surface of the moon. Then he would tell himself, hey, get busy collecting rocks.

The absence of Premier Wynne from the Leaside Property Owners Association all-candidates meeting last week has raised questions as to why. Obviously, it is a busy time for Ms Wynne but one might think she would wish to be present for a gathering like this in her own riding. Carol Burtin Phipp, co-president of the LPOA, has said that the Premier had said shortly after the invitation was sent that she wanted to be at the meeting but it was up to the Provincial campaign managers. “Subsequently LPOA Director Andrea Villiers kept in close touch with Liberal head office who said they would do their best,  but it was only confirmed for sure on the morning before our meeting (Tuesday, May 22) that Thunder Bay, not Leaside, would get Wynne. Till then there had been some hope.”  On the night of the meeting there was a belief or theory among some that party leaders had agreed not to attend meetings in their own ridings. This appears to be without foundation.

At left, this friendly free rider boarded Line 1 the other day at Davisville. Passengers were charmed but he had to go to animal control where we’re hoping his owner was found. Upper right, this is Bessborough School Mayfair Sunday and what a beautiful day it is. That large playground at Bessborough and Field will be jumping. Centre right, this blue VW SUV has been posted on Leaside Community roaring along the hillside at Leaside High School dispensing fireworks. Frightening for everyone. Hope mom and day take matters in hand. Lower left, a peek at the mushrooming seasonal event variously known as the garage, lawn or yard sale. This one was on McRae Saturday. Finally at lower right, this is the last day of Woofstock at Woodbine Park. There is always lots to see.

Police are searching the area near the home at 72 Torrens Ave. between Broadview and Pape Aves. this weekend after the discovery of the body of Rhoderie Estrada, 41. She was discovered with obvious trauma in a bedroom at the home. Police say they were called to the home early Saturday and found the body. They did not say who called them. There is speculation that the perpetrator may have sneaked into the home sometime late Friday or early Saturday. “We are alleging that sometime between Friday at 10:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2:15 a.m., an unknown person entered the dwelling by a side window and subsequently caused the death of Ms. Estrada,” Detective Mike Carbone told reporters.

A man of about 60 is seriously injured after a fall from his bicycle during a tangle of cycists out for an early ride Saturday in Burlington. Two others received minor injuries. Halton Police say that the group of nine cyclists was headed westbound on New Street near Goodram Drive at around 7:25 a.m. when some bikes bumped together for unknown reasons. The injured man is in Hamilton General Hospital.
