Killer drug alert after two men die at Deer Park house party

Two men have died Sunday at a house party near Yonge St and Lawton Blvd in Deer Park after taking an apparently unknown drug. This occurred Sunday and Toronto police have issued a general warning as well as a photo of the packaged substance. The victims were 53 and 33 years of age.

Woman, 27, badly hurt on Hwy 404 at 19th Ave in York Rgn

A woman, 27, has been hospitalized with serious injuries Sunday after she lost control of her car. It slid into a tow truck waiting to service an earlier accident on Highway 404 at 19th Street in York Region. OPP say the road was wet with poor visibility because of the snow.

The lights are on at City Hall. Mayor Tory counted down the moment of illumination for the annual Cavalcade of Lights festival. It runs from November 27 to January 2 at Nathan Phillips Square.

Thorncliffe running shoe drive produces bumper collection

The 2021 Thorncliffe Park PS running shoe collection conducted in recent years by a young man from Leaside has once again produced a bumper collection of shoes. Ryan Spitzer has posted a picture of some 171 pairs of shoes donated by area residents. They will be donated to kids in need of footwear for athletic and recreational activities. Well done Ryan. The running shoe collection was begun in 2014 by then-student Mackenzie Bier of Leaside.

“Torontohenge” sunset casts special spell on east-end street

A photo posted on the Leslieville Facebook page shows a recent sunset during that special time of the year when the sun is aligned with east-west streets. Over the years, many people have commented on this phenomenon as it can be seen a little further west on Moore Ave. between Bayview Ave and Mud Creek. The photo above was shot by Dave Bottoms who called his work “Torontohenge”. That’s a play on the murky practices of the Druids at Stonehenge. FB

To say that Ashley Jackson’s mom and dad are proud of the Chatham girl hardly begins to tell you how highly they think of her. Ashley, a graduate of the University of Ottawa, has been chosen as a Rhodes scholar to Oxford where she will study Oncology. At the US Thanksgiving Day Macy’s Parade in New York, a number of new balloon floats were seen. This is Aida, a young cartoon scientist. Finally, Tom Sullivan loves to cook. Now he and wife Rachel have begun Adopt-A-College-Kid. They feed students in need.

Area scouts are selling Christmas trees. The 132nd Toronto Scouts are selling online this year. Over in the Glebe, you can drop in at the lot of the 58th Scouts in the parking lot of the Church of the Transfiguration at 111 Manor Rd.
