Another tower is being proposed for the vicinity of Yonge St. and St. Clair Ave. The 39-floor structure is shown on a site on the west side of Yonge at Pleasant Blvd. This is the low-rise 1400 block. It’s the location of many long-time businesses including one of the only Home Hardware stores remaining in the area. Urban Toronto

Dark, chilly morning as Bayview corridor deals with outage
by
•Toronto is working off a wet, dark and rather chilly morning after overnight heavy rain. The deluge caused a large outage as shown on the Outage Map for about 1,000 Toronto Hydro users north of Blythwood Rd. on the Bayview Ave corridor Thursday morning. It’s not clear if Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is on emergency generator support although the map clearly covers part of the hospital. Outage Map
Panel on Toronto’s staggering world of construction cranes
by
•Urban Toronto, the building site, has posted information on a panel discussion Thursday at noon hour on the number of cranes in Toronto. There is apparently a charge to attend. Cranes continue to multiply in this City at a breathtaking rate. The US-Canada map above is fascinating although one comment points out the New York City count represents only Manhattan. It’s remarkable to think that there are probably more cranes on Toronto’s Broadway Ave. than on the Great White Way. Urban Toronto
Rent scam that leaves renter on street pops up in Davisville
by
•A Davisville resident and her family have encountered what appears to be a familiar scam in which hapless people are sent to an address at which they think they’ve rented a room. The lead-up to this involves an online ad that asks for a deposit before the address is given. The unhappy end comes when the prospective roomer is turned away from the home to which he’s been sent. Be warned.
Vax passport hitches on dawn of paperwork nobody wants
by
•Day one of the Ontario vaccine passport has dawned with some hitches at the government identity site. There’s no mention here of whether you can use the two receipts received when you were vaccinated along with, say, your driver’s license. Day two of this process comes on September 22 when you supposedly will be able to download an app and QR code. But you don’t need any “passport” for groceries, pharmacies and many other essentials. Just a mask. Remember when you could meet people on the street and hug them? Sigh.

Latest count: Libs 158, CPC 119, Bloc 34, NDP 24, Green 2
by
•This informative Wikipedia post Tuesday morning gives the seat count above for Canada’s new House of Commons — another minority for Justin Trudeau’s Liberals. The resurgence of the Bloc Quebecois reveals a very Canadian outcome in which Quebec opts out of national politics and creates political uncertainty. It’s Canada.
Liberal Toronto and how
Predictions of a Liberal bonanza in Toronto have been fulfilled. There are essentially no changes among seats in Midtown Toronto. CTV has a full list of GTA outcomes here.
Conservatives win popular vote
The CPC won the most votes in the 2021 federal election but wasn’t able to translate that support into the most seats. Tory voters live in the wrong places to create a win in the HOC. They collected 34.1 percent of the gross ballots with the Liberals taking 31.8 percent of the total number of votes cast. That translated into 46.2 percent of the total seats for the Liberals (158 seats).
Yet more spending for everything it seems
This City News yack early Tuesday suggests a Liberal/NDP arrangement to introduce many new spending projects — nice but of course, someone has to pay.
