We all remember when Jessica Chastain and the film crew of Molly’s Game visited South Bayview over the winter of 2016/2017. Molly’s Game, directed by Aaron Sorkin, was filmed in numerous locations throughout our great city. Many Torontonians are excited to learn that the world premiere of the film will be at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) this year.

MOLLY’S GAME: Aaron Sorkin’s directorial debut stars Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba in the true story of Molly Bloom, proprietor of Hollywood’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade before being shut down by the FBI.
DOWNSIZING: Matt Damon headlines a cast that includes Kristen Wiig, Christoph Waltz, Hong Chau, Laura Dern, Jason Sudeikis, Alec Baldwin, and Neil Patrick Harris in Alexander Payne’s sci-fi social satire about a man who chooses to shrink himself (literally) to simplify his life.
The filming of the final scenes of the Matt Damon and Kirsten Wiig movie Downsizing are said to have run well into Saturday morning on Bessborough Drive Drive at Annesley.Ave. The movie has been filming intermittently at the lovely home overlooking the intersection since early May. It appears that Mr. Damon was very accommodating around having pictures taken. Below he is seen with the wife of the picture-taker Charles Chuck Reynolds. In a note published on the Leaside Community Facebook page Mr. Reynolds wrote that Matt Damon was very gracious and posed agreeably while dressed in character after make up “with my wonderful wife”. The producer, says Reynolds, was Mark Johnson who also produced The Notebook was also very nice to meet. Then a little joke. “No, we are not hosting the cast for dinner on Bessborough this evening. (its Tuesday, lol). Friday’s filming was the apparent wrap-up of work on Bessborough for the movie. Those at the site included Louise Brisbois who posted to Leaside Community Facebook page to whom thanks from The Bulldog and also to Wilmar Kortleever. Previous
The Leaside location for the movie Downsizing is on the west side of Bessborough Drive at Annesley Ave where a large crew was present at noon Monday, May 9, 2016. Bystanders said that Matt Damon (and maybe Kristen Wiig) were already inside the home with the black light filters. But crew members said they would arrive later. There is a large crew for this story about a man who feels his life is out of control and wants to downsize. It is adapted from a work by Alexander Payne described as a high concept sci-fi satire. Reese Witherspoon was expected to co-star but Wiig is now opposite Damon. The two are expected to be here just one day.
Excitement is running high on the Leaside Chit Chat Facebook page tonight after Anthony Regan posted word that Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig are filming in Leaside. It is apparently true according to Hollywood websites that the two will star in the movie Downsizing to be made in “Toronto, Canada” but Anthony says he thinks it is going to happen on Astor Ave. All these streets — Astor, Rolph, Bessborough and others are favorite locales for movies and commercials. They’re so — well — middle American. Anyway, the cracks are flying as Regan adds that extras who are willing to appear naked are being solicited (if you will pardon the expression). Here is some of the repartee on Leaside Chit Chat Tuesday night.
