Parents of 8-year-old Marlee McLean say she was upset when she was told to put her shirt on at a Guelph wading pool. She and her brothers stripped to the waist to play in a civic pool. Parents Cory McLean and Anika Warmington complained and told of the child’s embarrassment. “She was so embarrassed and really nervous and scared because it appeared she was in trouble,” McLean said. Marlee broke a “sexist and antiquated” rule, said her dad, who called for it to be changed. But City officials, though sorry for the incident,  said the policy is meant to balance the safety and comfort of everyone using public facilities such as pools. This happened Saturday on a visit to Guelph from their home in nearby Fergus. This week City officials have said they are sorry to have made an issue of the matter but city rules state only girls under four may go topless.
