TTC Relief Line meeting tonight

Councillor Josh Matlow, Ward 22 invites you to learn about the proposed Relief Subway Line.  A meeting will be held tonight (June 2nd, 2014) at 7pm, North Toronto Collegiate Institute, 17 Broadway Avenue.  This proposal discusses the merits of a rapid transit line connecting downtown to the Bloor/Danforth subway, east of the Don.  Anyone taking the TTC during rush hour knows that some sort of relief is necessary.  Attend the meeting to have your say.  More here. Cameron/MacNaughton street sale

Homowners on Cameron Crescent & McNaughton Road in South Leaside tell us that they are hosting a street sale on Saturday, June 7th, 2014.  Sale will run from 9am – 1pm.  There will also be an evening BBQ.  Who doesn’t love a good deal & a BBQ?

Get outta town

Warm weather is finally upon us.  If you’re a South Bayviewite without a cottage, we can recommend visiting Stouffville to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy the fresh country air.  Less than an hour north-east of Toronto, you can walk the endless trails of the York Regional Forest, take a horseback riding lesson or even watch an Extreme Cowboy show.  If you prefer to stay close to all the things you know & love about South Bayview, then it’s only a short stroll to Serena Gundy & Sunnybrook Park where you can visit the Sunnybrook Riding School.  They even offer beginner lessons.  Giddy up.

Great day for a fair

Councillor Josh Matlow reminds us to go out and enjoy this beautiful weather at Maurice Cody PS Spring Fair today.  Perfect!

The Royal York, anyone…anyone?

Toronto’s Royal York & Hotel Vancouver have been put up for sale by Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec.  The Royal York will continue to be managed by Fairmont Hotels and Resorts as their contract still has decades remaining.  In 1929, the year it opened, the Royal York was the tallest building in Toronto.  Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the Royal Family have graced its rooms.  If you’d prefer an investment with a more light-hearted history, you’re too late — the glass house featured in “Ferris Bueller” has been sold for $1.06M.

Comfortable shoes for Toronto’s beachgoers

City of Toronto will officially open most of their beaches this Sunday, but comfortable footwear is advised because the warm weather also brings TTC & road closures around the GTA.  Bulldog advises beachgoers to pack your flippers and walk to the beach this weekend.  In other news, ice cream may be hard to come by.

New mum thanks teens, police on Facebook

Parents Melissa and Simon
Melissa McMahon and Simon Boisclair feel like the luckiest parents in the world. A few days ago their baby was abducted from out of her mother’s arms and was only found through the good work of four Trois Rivieres teenagers. Now Ms. McMahon has used Facebook to thank everyone who helped bring home baby Victoria. A 21-year-old woman accused of the baby-snatching will undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine whether the  case against her can proceed. Her name is Valerie Poulin Collins. The wan-looking woman appeared in court after she was identified by the four teens who saw the Amber Alert on FaceBook. Karine Bussieres, Poulin Collins counsel, told the judge her client is incapable of helping her prepare a defence and asked for the psychiatric evaluation. “For the moment, I’m unable to communicate or have a rational discussion with her,” Bussieres told reporters after the hearing. Jean Pascal Boucher, a spokesman for the Crown, said Poulin Collins will remain in custody until she returns to court next Thursday. How Victoria was rescued

Liquor license applicants stuck in red-tape limbo

This is a strange tale of how those busy, busy City councillors have made it a requirement for anyone wanting a liquor license in Toronto to present a letter of approval from the local MPP. Toronto Star

Libs tighten race, PCs most committed

Just 12 days out from general election day and you can still pick and choose according to your political tendencies from the latest poll. Ipsos Reid, generally a reliable source, say the Liberals are tightening the rate, moving up on the PCs. But it says the PCs have it all over the Libs in the category of committed voters — the ones who are determined to votre. That break-out reads PCs 41%, Libs 29% and NDP 25%.  Polls are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Signs point to accidental fire on Inglewood Drive

Burned  BMW at 12  Inglewood

Signs seem to suggest that the car fire at 12 Inglewood Drive early Friday was the result of accidental causes. The fire started in a trash container in the driveway between 12 and 10 Inglewood and spread to a BMW also parked in the driveway. Sources say an occupant of the area came home around 2.30 a.m. and sat outside with a cigarette. Further, the single nature of the fire sets it apart from the multiple arsons that occurred in Bennington Heights. This fire was on a portion of Inglewood which can only be accessed from Moore Ave because of the elaborate system of no-turns installed in the section of Moore Park west of Mt. Pleasant Rd.  Bennington fire posts
