An interesting addition has been published to the proposed land planning related to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. The agenda for a meeting to be held June 19, 2014 at City Hall specifies “revisions to land” and describes one as follows: “Townhouses in one block on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East, west of Hanna Road.” Let’s review. There is no “block” west of Hanna Rd except the one that runs all the way to Bayview Ave. We’re sure there will never be townhouses in front of Leaside High or across the great vista of Howard Talbot Park. The “block” appears to be the six original looking homes just west of Hanna. They run up to the fenced boundary of LHS. The space represented by these lots would probably be big enough to put 12 attached townhouses in there. That’s a number we just made up but it seems reasonable. PCs say Libs made secret $305 million bailout

The Ontario Progressive Conservatives are saying today (Thursday, May 29, 2012) that the Wynne government secretly approved a $305-million bailout of a downtown Toronto real estate development after the Legislature was dissolved. The Premier denied the charge this afternoon. The PCs say the Liberals gave $71 million to build a second tower at the MaRS innovation research centre and provided a $234-million loan for the project. Documents ar3 alleged to show the registered charity and the real estate developer behind it couldn’t repay the money. The approval of the bailout occurred right before the election call, said former Tory MPP Frank Klees.
LEAF wants to plant “monarch corridor”

LEAF, the group that created the adopt-a-tree plan at work on Bayview Ave. is working to raise awareness and money for a monarch butterfly corridor through the heart o the city. The monarchs are returning from the Mexican reserve where they winter but their numbers are greatly depleted for reasons not entirely understood. The butterfly population is said to fluctuate. But now LEAF — Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests — is hoping to encourage people to plant the milkweed plant, natural food an environment of the monarchs. LEAF will be planting milkweed at their Urban Forest Demonstration Garden at the Spadina TTC Station. They invite people to come out on the morning on June 7, 2014 and learn how to plant their own milkweed throughout the city. The the milkweed program is inspired by the David Suzuki Foundation. Cell user snaps Montreal cop with woman

Montreal police are investigating after a bystander took a picture of a cop with a bare-shouldered woman on his lap. What else was going on is yours to guess. The witness said there two officers having sex with two women in a the cruiser. The Montreal department didn’t believe it but a check of the picture showed it was all to true. Police say they’ll discipline at least one officer, a six year veteran of the force. The photo, which was making the rounds on the Internetthis week, shows a man in uniform sitting in the driver’s seat with a topless blonde woman on his lap. Leila Saad, who took the photo, told Sun News there were, in fact, two officers in the cruiser, each having sex with a woman. Wynne won’t exclude a Liberal-NDP government

The Premier, Kathleen Wynne, would not rule out the possibility of a coalition of sorts with the NDP in order to form a government after the June 12 general election. Ms. Wynne told reporters Wednesday (May 298 2014) that she would “make that determination” after the votes are counted. “I’m not ruling out anything except working as hard as I can over the next 16 days to make sure that we get to Queen’s Park and we can implement our plan,” Ms Wynne told CTV. Polls show the three parties close together with support that would likely produce a minority government of some kind if the election were today.
Scotiabank sells CI, Apple buys Beats Electroncs

Bank of Nova Scotia will sell its shares in CI Financial in order to invest the money within the bank. An underwriter will take 72 million shares of CI at $31.60 each for proceeds of about $2.275 billion. And Apple has purchased Beats Electronics, maker of headphones and its Beats Music subscription service for $3 billion. Nice payday for Beats co-founders Jimmy Iovine and rapper Dr. Dre.

Sarah Jordan, the 11-year-old Leaside girl who inspired the annual local food bank initiative, has been nominated for the Youth In Action Award (12 and under) sponsored by the Me to We organization. Me to We is a social enterprise inspiring young people to good work. It is part of a community of organizations including the Free the Children charity which was created by Canadian brothers Marc and Craig Kielburger. A message sent by Sarah’s father Mark Jordan says she stands to win $3,000 which will be donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank. You may vote here Me to We. Reader sees “one lucky deer” cross Eglinton

Reader Bob Arsenault has advanced the Glebe Manor deer story with a picture he took of what is almost certainly the same animal crouching in the greenery at the rear of 1750 Bayview Ave. Bob quickly snapped the picture (inset) before the deer took off and ran across Eglinton Ave. E. (and Bayview) and went behind Sunnybrook Plaza. “As you can imagine, the motorists were quite shocked to see the deer running across this busy intersection. How he/she came to the rear of our condominium building is anyone’s guess. This is one lucky deer”.Previous post
