Island will open Monday with recreation programs in place

The day many have hoped for arrives Monday July 31st when Toronto Island re-opens. Avoid the ferry lines and buy tickets online at toronto.ca/ferry starting Friday. Opening includes Centre and Ward’s Islands. Toronto Island Park beaches will be fully operational with exception of some compromised, unsafe or restricted areas. City of Toronto recreation programs on the Toronto Islands will also begin as of Monday.

Jon Burnside’s Community Environment Day is August 12

Ward 26 Community Environment Day to be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017. Come by Leaside Memorial Gardens between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 pm.

You can drop off small electronics, household hazardous waste, fluorescent bulbs, unused medications, oils, solvents, pesticides, propane tanks, and batteries.

Please note that the following items will not be accepted: construction waste, gasoline, garbage, wood, cassette and videotapes, commercial/industrial hazardous waste, and scrap metal.

When: August 12, 2017
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Location: Leaside Memorial Gardens, 1073 Millwood Rd.

July 29th is National Chicken Wing Day! Who knew?

To celebrate this little known holiday, free wing samplers will be doled out at Wild Wing at Bayview and Millwood on Saturday from open – 5pm.  Pop inside for $5 pints of Canadian (all day).  Founded in 1999 in Sunderland Ontario, Wild Wing has grown to 83 locations across Canada. Police have deployed water cannons as anti-G20 protests in Hamburg, Germany continue to escalate.

World’s largest rubber ducky has docked in Toronto

If you’re heading downtown this weekend, pass by HTO Park where you will catch a glimpse of the World’s Largest Rubber Duck. The spectacle stands six stories tall and is making its first visit to Canada to join in the Canada 150 celebrations. This weekend the duck will be bathing in Lake Ontario as part of the Redpath Waterfront Festival.

TPS NEWS RELEASE – ROAD CLOSURES
On Saturday, July 1, 2017, the annual East York Canada Day parade will take place. At 10 a.m., the parade will begin near Dieppe Park and finish at approximately 1 p.m., at Stan Wadlow Park.
Participants will assemble for the parade beginning at 9 a.m.
Formation Area: Cosburn Avenue from Greenwood Avenue to Barfield Avenue

The parade route is as follows:
– eastbound on Cosburn Avenue to Coxwell Avenue
– southbound on Coxwell Avenue to Sammon Avenue
– eastbound on Sammon Avenue to Woodbine Avenue
– northbound on Woodbine Avenue to O’Connor Drive

Dispersal Area:
– floats and participants, Shoppers Drug Mart parking lot at Woodbine Avenue and O’Connor Drive
– spectators, Stan Wadlow Park via Trento Avenue
Motorists in the area may experience traffic delays.
