Sweet dream or worst nightmare? Bayview dressed for bikes
by •
A self-styled “infrastructure nerd” is creating images of City streets gussied up with bike lanes and less parking. Here’s his vision of Bayview Ave. It’s just out of frame to the left but it looks as if this paradise has Belsize Drive in a dead-end at Bayview. Sweet dream or worst nightmare?

Sidewalk clearing for Midtown 22 years after amalgamation
by •
The residential and commercial sidewalks of Toronto and East York will now be cleared of snow on the same general basis as those in Etobicoke, North York and Scarborough. The decision was taken Thursday in a vote of 24 to 1 at City Council. The decision corrects an inequity hangover from amalgamation in 1998. Time-honoured neighbourhoods like Summerhill, Lawrence Park, Leaside Bennington and many others will see this simple municipal service for the first time ever.

Then, the Taiwanese parliament is testament to the enduring truth that democracy can be messy. But you may be sure the people of this plucky republic wouldn’t trade it for anything else. Below that, British cops pursue a kid on a motorcycle going as fast as 180 mph on a London-area motorway. And finally, this lucky Leonid in Vladivostok escapes death when a huge slab of concrete falls from a high-rise and crushes his car. Yikes again.
