Strict milk just too confusing for bureaucrats

For more than a year the milk bureaucrats in Ontario have been fussing away about whether Mac’s should be allowed to sell milk in three litre containers (jugs?). But now they have given up. Their rigmarole was too much even for them. Soon, three-litre jugs. Woo hoo. Ottawa Citizen

Moses Znaimer seeking control of Sun Network

The Globe and Mail’s James Bradshaw reports that Moses Znaimer is “hoping to expand his reach on the TV dial by acquiring the money-losing Sun News Network from Quebecor Inc.” “According to a source familiar with the negotiations, Mr. Znaimer is eager to make a deal that would see ZoomerMedia Ltd., a company he controls, buy the news and opinion channel before the year is over. Mr. Znaimer currently has exclusive negotiating rights, and the price of the purchase would be low, the source said,” Bradshaw writes. Full story

414 Manor East sold for $855,000 in 2012

Many readers locked in on the story posted yesterday about 414 Manor Rd E  It was a bungalow but now is a new square-style house full of amenities priced at $2,150,000. How much did it sell for to the builder? It appears to have gone for $855,000 late in 2012. It had been listed for $699,000, so that was nice uptick on the asking.

Snow warnings lifted, sun should shine Friday

Be of good cheer. It has been lousy in many ways, not the least for local merchants on South Bayview and Mount Pleasant. The streets were a bit of a ghost town. But look at the forecast above from the Weather Network and smile. The driving has been perilous, with police reporting an accident every three minutes earlier today.

“I’ve seen this stuff before and I didn’t like then”

Didn’t like it then either

There appeared to be eight centimetres on the ground with the morning rush hour and we may be getting more. Up to 10 centimetres of snow is expected to fall in the City of Toronto over the next several hours. Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Newmarket, Georgina, and northern York Region. Those areas could see anywhere from 15 to 20 centimetres today.  Here are school bus cancellations as published by CP24. At City Hall it appears the snow may have made enough people late for work that an early morning group picture of the new council has had to be delayed. At right, friend Mojo is out in the South Bayview snow. He is thinking, “I’ve seen this before and I didn’t like it then either.”  Weather Network

414 Manor Rd. near Cleveland up for $2,150,000

The transformation of Manor Rd. and other South Bayview residential streets is steaming forward. It’s okay, we suppose that those little brick bungalows like 414 Manor are vanishing but the places that replace them are priced over the moon. Inset are the pictures of the home in question. At top, the place as it sits for sale this season listed at $2,159,000 by Fari Madani, Re/Max Infinite Inc. Thanks to Toronto Life for that.  Below, the bungalow that was, photographed in 2011 by Google Streetscape. The new place is described by Toronto Life as an ultra-modern, grey-brick home with an enormous fireplace in the living room. It has a second-floor laundry room, Nest thermostats, exterior cameras, radiant heating in the bathrooms and basement and an under-the-stairs wine cellar. It has the garage at ground level, an architectural feature that is being questioned by some. The place sits near Cleveland midway between Gresham and Cheston Rds. on the north side Take a look

Guys Night Out ensures gifts for 2,500 kids

More than 100 Leaside and area men attended the 11th Annual Leaside Guys Night Out and Christmas Toy Drive last week at the Leaside Pub on Laird Drive. They brought unwrapped toys and cash with all the proceeds going to the Thorncliffe Park Neighbourhood Office (TNO). TNO supports families and children in the Thorncliffe Park neighbourhood.  More than 200 toys and presents were collected at the Leaside Pub and more than 1,000 toys donated by an anonymous Leaside resident. The cash donations totalled $6,500. The best part of the story is that 2,500 children will be getting gifts this Christmas because of the toy drive.. Some  350 kids from needy families will enjoy an event at the East York Centre on December 13, 2014 organized by TNO. The entire enrolment of 700 kindergarten children at Fraser Mustard Early Learning Academy in Thorncliffe Park will receive educational toys and 1,450 children at Thorncliffe Park Public School will receive refillable water bottles  This kind and generous project was organized by  Daryn Everett, Edward Wong, Michael Zivot and Jeff Hohner.  Ahmed Hussein, the Executive Director of the Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office and Ward 26 Councillor Jon Burnside were at the pub to help in this wonderful community event.
