Police are alerting west-end parents to the discovery of used syringe needles in a parkette near Dundas West and Roncesvalles Ave Wednesday. The needles were picked by children from a nearby elementary school and at least one was apparently poked. All the children were treated at hospital as a precaution. Parents are reminded to have a conversation with children about the potential health and safety hazards of discarded syringes. Children should be advised to not touch syringes and to notify an adult immediately. Adults should then exercise caution if they decide to remove the syringe and call 311 to request a pick-up.

Alone in the cockpit, decade of junk and NDP turns Green
by •
A student pilot in Australia is heard to complain that he doesn’t want to pay for the lesson after his instructor collapsed in the cockpit. Grim but funny. Then to Queen’s New York for a woman who angrily refuses to deal with a decade of garbage piled in her house. Below that, some 14 New Democratic candidates in New Brunswick have defected to the Green Party. The affinity seems clear. Finally, good samaritans from the Global Medic Rapid Response Team in Etobicoke will go to the Bahamas to assist in hurricane recovery.

Stop-go single file on Bayview for restaurant gas connection
by •
Bayview was reduced Tuesday to a single lane of stop and go traffic opposite 1613 Bayview Ave., the former Tru Value Hardware store that is slated to become a restaurant. The cause was substantial work required to bring a restaurant volume gas line from the west side of the street to the east side. Heavy digging was going on beside both curbs and just where else it might go is unknown.
