Serious injuries at track level report at Summerhill station

Razor-sharp security photo is an unkind cut for this burglar

There will be no difficulty for those who know this gent personally in identifying him from the razor-sharp resolution of the security photo released by Toronto Police. He was busy a week ago on December 22 about 6.47 a.m. at a business near King St. West and Bathurst St. He forced open the door and removed a quantity of electronic equipment. He is described as 35-40, medium build, grey goatee, black ball cap, black parka, and blue jeans.

Seen Saturday on Leaside Community, Chit Chat groups

Complaints and concerns seen on Facebook Saturday morning include car break-ins, this time north and west of Bayview Ave. and Eglinton Ave. At Leaside Chit Chat a member has posted concerns about a woman seen apparently abusing her retriever-type dog on Donlea Drive. Also on Chit Chat, the ongoing local annoyance with those who feed cookies to the squirrels. It leads to bits and pieces as shown in a photo taken and illustrated by one man. Who knew. Feeding squirrels, although not a popular pastime, is sometimes done as a preventive measure to keep from gnawing window sills to sawdust.

$55,000 cash stolen at 4 a.m. from modest home in Milton

Armed thieves, two men and a woman, broke into a modest home on Pearl St. in the Town of Milton and stole $55,000 in cash from the sole occupant about 4 a.m. Friday. She is a woman who is said to have recently received the cash in a “legal settlement” of an unnamed type. It seems apparent to the police that someone who knew the woman had the money, and had not put it in the bank, was behind the crime. Instead, it was in the home in a beige purse. The robbers are described as a black or South Asian man wearing dark clothing, a dark-skinned man with blue-eyes, 6 feet tall, of slim build, in dark clothing and a third person who “could be a woman” with dark hair, 5’ 4” to 5’ 6” tall, slim and in dark clothing. Anyone with information should call Halton Regional Police.

Two on foot, one in car hurt in tangle at Eglinton/Danforth

Police originally believed that one of the cars involved in the accident fled the scene, but later said all vehicles involved have been accounted for.

Socks 4 Souls girls shine through on a balmy Bayview Friday

Say hello to 15 rays of sunshine (upper left) who between them gathered 135 pairs of socks to give to those who have none. These shining faces belong to Leaside Wildcats, overseen by a very proud Kerry Collier, peewee and bantam convener of the Toronto Leaside Girls Hockey Association. The program is called Socks 4 Souls and is aimed at helping Toronto’s homeless. More than 20 percent of health care problems among the homeless is related to their feet. Upper right, many went coatless on South Bayview Ave this balmy 10-degree-Celsius Friday. Below that, a reminder of the sweetly named Leaside United Church Youth LUCY Pizza Party. Across the bottom posters for the annual free skate sponsored by Patrick Rocca, the charitable Leaside Ladies Night set for January 24 and at lower right, the 29th Annual Leaside Select Invitational Tournament. What fun.  South Bayview Bulldog Bulletin Board

What the heck? Here comes the train while gates are still up

There was a slight spot of bother in Illinois when a short-circuit in the railway gates allowed this (above) to happen. The driver swerved into the median and survived. Then, a topical CBC take on how busy people are joining the gang at the gym virtually. There’s a ton of money changing hands and the results seem mixed. Below that, do you know where your marijuana is coming from? Many cannot help smiling at how after a lifetime of smoking stuff from God Knows Where, this question is suddenly important. Lastly, the sky over Manhattan was alien blue Thursday night but it was only an explosion at a transformer.

Instagram scrolling experiment runs away from its keepers

The brains at Instagram launched what they thought was a limited experiment in horizontal scrolling of posts Thursday but it got out of hand. The unannounced refresh, which Instagram has since labeled as a bug, took users by surprise. Instead of scrolling through posts vertically, some people were forced to swipe and tap left and right through their feeds, similar to how the app’s stories feature works. Users went berserk on social media, with #instagramupdate trending on Twitter. Instagram quickly reverted back to the original top-to-bottom scrolling feature even before everyone had seen the update. All just part of the heavy burden of being manipulated by geniuses running your social media life.
