New Starbucks on Overlea and Team Epping Grand Slam

A new Starbucks has opened at 62 Overlea Blvd. and Beth Nealson Drive. It is a light and airy place with windows on three sides. The feeling is more like a bar than a Starbucks. We call the welcome appearance of this place part of the Costco effect. At right, Leaside’s John Epping and his stalwart crew have captured the Canadian Beef Masters men’s title with a 7-4 victory over Calgary’s Kevin Koe in Truro, NS. It is Epping’s fourth championship in the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling series and completes a career Grand Slam for the skip having captured all four majors. At centre left, boys and girls soccer teams from Maurice Cody Public School won their classes at the Toronto District Elementary School Athletic Association (TDESAA). Nice going guys. At centre, for $624,900 you can move straight in at 874 Cosburn. That’s just east of Woodbine Ave. At the bottom, three always enjoyable events at local churches coming up next Saturday, November 3.

The Maple Leafs beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 at home Saturday in a thrilling come-from-behind performance. But with the win, the Leafs also lost centre Auston Matthews to a shoulder injury — putting a cloud of uncertainty over what was an exhilarating third period resurgence with goals scored 26 seconds apart by Jake Gardiner and Kasperi Kapanen to secure Toronto’s second-straight win in a home-and-home. Bloody Red October continues to savage Toronto, US stocks

Stocks are collapsing in the US and Canada again Friday in a costly slaughter of investments not seen in as much as five years. Shortly after 11 a.m. Toronto was down 180 points and the Dow in New York was down a stunning 497 points. A quick and easy reason for this is offered in the “disappointing” earnings of Amazon and others announced Friday. But the selling seems a lot like sheer panic to others. Towards noon, there were some signs of buying in a market which must be making certain stocks quite attractive.
