Chevrolet to build electric Silverado

General Motors has announced that it will build an all-electric Silverado pickup truck. It will come from the same EV assembly line in Michigan that will produce the recently-announced GMC Hummer EV sport utility. No on-sale date has been announced for either one, but the Hummer SUV has been tagged with a 2024 model-year and suggestions it could launch early 2023. Olde Yorke Fish and Chips has decided to close even its takeout service immediately because of the C-19 surge. In a message Tuesday, the owner Olivia Feather, spoke about the personal concern she and others felt for people “in our age group.” She said: “We want to be pro-active to protect all our staff, and our family, who are in the age group that is now more at risk. We hope that the vaccines will be given to them shortly, as they have been on the front lines of exposure all this time. We will open once again when we feel comfortable with the situation ”

The government has decided to re-impose a stay-at-home order that also closes all but essential grocery stores except for takeout. CBC This decision comes the same day that the City of Toronto decided to close all schools and send kids back to virtual learning.

Tractor-trailer rumbles, then folds up like scarf on Hwy 427

A jackknifed tractor-trailer is seen on Highway 427 at Highway 409 Tuesday afternoon. The driver told the OPP that the big rig began to shake as he drove straight ahead and then just folded up like a scarf.

5G fun for hockey jocks

It’s being reported that TSN and Bell are bringing a new 5G immersive viewing experience to Toronto on April 15 during coverage of the Toronto Maple Leafs game against the Winnipeg Jets. Toronto home sales in March double over a year earlier

The Toronto Real Estate Board says Tuesday that home prices in the City continued to climb in March while sales were almost double that of the same month a year earlier. Sales in the area reached a record 15,652 last month, up 97 percent from 7,945 during the same time last year. TREB says the sales growth was so dramatic because it compares with March 2020, when the first economic effects of the pandemic took hold and both buyers and sellers were wary of the market.

Tom Gibney, 84, the long-time anchor of CFTO-TV News has died. Mr. Gibney was a native of Yorkton, Saskatchewan and worked at CFTO from 1973 until 2007, retiring when the news department was known as CTV Toronto. Wikipedia

Mummies on the move in Cairo

There’s no better place than Cairo for a parade of mummies and On Demand News has lived up to its reputation for off-beat happenings by sending this report on a cavalcade of 22 prized and embalmed royals. The mummies were taken from downtown to their new resting place further south in the capital. The vehicles were designed to resemble the ancient boats used to carry deceased pharaohs to their tombs. The 18 mummies – including Ramses II and Queen Hatshepsut – were originally buried 3,000 years ago.
