Next Saturday, November 8, 2014, will see the well-named “Fabulous Christmas Fair” at St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church at 1399 Bayview Ave. It runs as usual from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and with any luck will spill out onto the church’s green. Organizers are urging you to drop in and check out the jewellery, baking, toys and other goods. There is a yummy lunch scheduled too. Another tradition is the silent auction with contributions from local merchants.
Stintz denies taking money from Tory to quit

A Tweet from Warren Kinsella has generated a lot of interest in just what if anything passed between Karen Stintz and John Tory at the time she stepped out of the race. Ms Stintz hustled onto CP24 to deny that she was offered money or anything else to quit the race. Her explanation of the “money” reference and “harmony dinners” seemed vague. One might draw from her remarks that Mr. Tory said he would help with what amounts to a passing of the hat for Ms. Stintz. At the time of her exit from the race, the South Bayview Bulldog did point out that cynics made a connection between the former Councillor’s interest in the commissionership of the CFL and Mr. Tory’s history in that department. Of course there is no love lost between Tory and Kinsella after a life of political combat.

China trip ends with word of investment, jobs

Ontario Premier Wynne has ended her trade trip to China in what is being heralded as nearly $1 billion in new investment in the province and the addition of some 1,800 jobs here. It is a welcome achievement and there will be eager interest in the details. One element is an agreement with the Chinese telecom company Huawei to create up to 325 new jobs in the next five years. The premier is said to have squeezed in some sightseeing at the end of her trip, She took time for walk, if not a jog, along the very steep slopes of the walkways on the top of the Great Wall. Brrr! Temperatures go down as clock falls back

South B-b-ayview weather had shoppers bundling up and maybe regretting they left the gloves at home. It is — as they say — well below seasonal along our favorite high street and all the other great South Bayview places like Mount Pleasant Village. It was darn cold there too. These pictures of way-too-much snow were snapped as Bulldog co-publisher Sue Byford visited Stouffville today. The clock gets turned back an hour tonight as standard time begins. The 14-day outlook for South Bayview in November suggests that temperatures will move to seasonal levels as we approach mid-month. There is City construction underway on the roadway at the southwest corner of Bayview Ave. and York Mills Rd. It may be an emergeney operation because it was happening Saturday. But the backup on York Mills was huge. Traffic soutbound was plugged all the way north to Fife Road.

They make a party out of getting rid of the old Jack O Lanterns in Davisville Village and tonight’s the night (Saturday, November 1, 2014). The annual Davisville Village Pumpkin Parade will be at Glebe Manor Square E. on Belsize Drive on Nov 1, 2014 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. That’s the lovely wide section of green space between the east and west-bound parts of Belsize Drive, east of Mount Pleasant. Bring your family and your pumpkins. See you there.
TPS’s “Detective Lisa” digs into Ghomeshi case

A woman detective of the Toronto Police Service is set to dig into the allegations made against former CBC host Jian Ghomeshi. Detective Lisa Ferris of the Sex Crimes Unit will interview one of two women who have complained to cops tomorrow (Saturday, November 1, 2014). She is unidentified to the world but her name is in the possession of the Toronto Star, which has driven the investigation into Ghomeishi for months. She and actress Lucy De Coutere are said to have made approaches to police in recent hours about bruising acts perpetrated against them by the 47-year-old one-time musician and radio interviewer. Ghomeshi was a founder of the band Moxy Fruvos in 1990. The band, which is still around, has made a statement in which it puts as much distance as possible between itself and Ghomeshi although there is no evidence that there has been any connection for decades.
