Know him? Bike thief seen at work near York and Queen Sts

Have power saw, will steal bikes. The brazen man seen here was captured by taxi driver Moe Khan as he waited for a fare. The bike thief stole Ben James $1,500 bike from a stand near York and Queen Sts. at midday on August 24. Mr. Khan’s video may be seen here. It has been widely viewed since it was tweeted shortly after the theft. The thief is heard shouting: “It’s my (f-in) bike.” Sure.

 

 

Princess Charlotte first day of school at Thomas’s Battersea

Princess Charlotte has magically become four and this week entered Thomas’s Battersea School in London. She doubtlessly had first-day butterflies but in this Sky News report, her concern seems to be mostly with the state of her ponytail. Then, the OPP has decided to make crime documentaries. Ontario to accept electronic proof of automobile insurance

The Ontario government says it will begin to accept electronic proof of auto insurance as presented to authorities on a smartphone or other device. The Canadian Press story Thursday suggests that the intent of this development will be the ultimate elimination of the familiar pink paper certificates. Finance Minister Rod Phillips said the paper insurance slip will be around for at least a year during a phase-in of electronic proof. Mr Phillips says the electronic cards will feature safeguards that won’t allow them to be altered or edited, and privacy concerns are top of mind. Drivers will be responsible for making sure their phone can display the proof of insurance, even with a poor signal, drained battery or damaged screen. and oh yes, don’t lose the phone.

Hammerhead crane daredevils working at Leaside Station

Preparation for use of the new hammerhead crane at Leaside Station has seen crewmen working to sort out cables high above the site. Traffic is required to swing far to the left as it approaches Eglinton from the south, then swing over to the right to continue past Sunnybrook Plaza. Cars can enter the plaza from Bayview now.

Alert over kids finding discarded syringes in Roncy parkette

Police are alerting west-end parents to the discovery of used syringe needles in a parkette near Dundas West and Roncesvalles Ave Wednesday. The needles were picked by children from a nearby elementary school and at least one was apparently poked. All the children were treated at hospital as a precaution. Parents are reminded to have a conversation with children about the potential health and safety hazards of discarded syringes. Children should be advised to not touch syringes and to notify an adult immediately. Adults should then exercise caution if they decide to remove the syringe and call 311 to request a pick-up.

Heartbreaking crash for young couple soon to get first home

The Spectator is reporting Wednesday night on the heartbreaking accident that has gravely injured a young husband as he was on the way to get the key to the first home he would share with his wife. The injured man is Jacob Hodge, 23. His wife Cayla and her mother are said to have passed the head-on collision on Highway 6 just minutes after it occurred but did not recognize the car and “were spared seeing Jacob in that situation.” Spectator

Supper hour sirens a rubbish fire at Bayview and Hillsdale

Toronto Fire South responded to what is being called a grass/rubbish fire at Bayview and Hillsdale Ave. Wednesday shortly after 6 p.m. It was quickly dealt with by pumper 125.  

Gift certificate man sought for fraud at Bloor and Ossington

He appeared at a store at Bloor St. and Ossington Ave. with a gift certificate that police say was “fraudulently obtained” Some would call it stealing. The certificate was exchanged for a card that was used to buy something unstated in the police release. No matter, they want to find him. This occurred on August 12, 2019 between the hours of 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. He is described as approximately 20 to 25 years old with a thin build, wearing a black Kangol bucket hat, thin gold necklace, a black T-shirt, navy blue shorts, a black backpack with a white handle, black Air Jordans with white soles, and a black bracelet on his right hand.

A student pilot in Australia is heard to complain that he doesn’t want to pay for the lesson after his instructor collapsed in the cockpit. Grim but funny. “Nipples, buttocks and groin” dress code in effect at schools

The first day of the year at Toronto public schools brought the board’s new dress code to practical reality. Some have called it the “nipples, buttocks and groin” code. Only time will tell although the code states students cannot come to school dressed in underwear as outwear. Some of the requirements are below and much information is available here.

  • Must wear a top and bottom layer of clothing of opaque material.
  • May wear tops that expose arms, shoulders, stomachs, midriff, neck lines, cleavage and straps but must cover the nipples.
  • May wear bottoms that expose legs, thighs and hips and expose straps and waistbands, but must cover the groin and buttocks.
  • May wear any headwear that does not obscure the face.
  • May wear dress requirements to support a creed practices and similar human rights accommodations.
  • May not wear tops that expose nipples.
  • May not wear bottoms that expose the groin and buttocks.
  • May not wear any headwear that obscures the face.
  • May not wear undergarments as outerwear.
  • May not wear anything that promotes or symbolizes drugs, alcohol, illegal activity, hate or discrimination, profanity, pornography; or that incites violence or harassment; or threatens health and safety.
