PCs win handily, Del Duca, Horwath resign as party leaders

Doug Ford’s Ontario Progressive Conservative Party has easily won the 2022 general election and will form the government in the 43rd Parliament of the Province. It appears the Tories will collect more than 80 seats. Both Liberal Leader Steven DelDuca and NDP leader Andrea Horwath have resigned their party leaderships. In Don Valley West, former police chief Mark Saunders lost the race to Liberal Stephanie Bowman. Jessica Bell of the NDP was re-elected in University Rosedale

Sad state of the door-to-door beggar on east end Curzon St

A Leslieville post is warning residents of a door-to-door beggar seen on Curzon St. Among other things, according to the post, this rather sad person has a bail condition that prevents him from being on this street.

GTA’s hottest day of the year so far prompts a warning

A heat warning was issued for the GTA this morning. I don’t think you need us to tell you that it’s hot out there. “Maximum temperatures will reach the low thirties again today. Minimum temperatures in the low twenties will provide little relief from the heat tonight. Cooler air is expected to arrive on Wednesday. Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high risk category.” Stay cool everyone.

Local merchants may profit from credit card settlement

Living history on Bayview Ave

Yes, we showed this amazing shot from 80 years ago recently but frankly, we can’t get over the fun of how it sits smack in the middle of South Bayview even now. It’s like living in Rome.

Area commercial streets blossom with new roadway patios

Some were surprised late last year when, as the pandemic began to wind down, City Council voted to make roadway patios known as CafeTO a permanent feature of commercial streets. If merchants or motorists cared about the apparent loss of parking it doesn’t seem to have amounted to much. Mt Pleasant Rd and Danforth Ave (to name two) are streets full of new Spring patios all of which remove parking for customers. At the same time, desperate restaurateurs have been under orders to take down the roof of a covered patio that merely sat on the sidewalk. No doubt there is a legal reason but the strange odyssey of roadway dining is worthy of a study. Meantime, narrow Bayview Ave uses its ultra-wide sidewalks to accommodate outdoor eating.
