PepisCo, the maker of Frito-Lay chips, is reported to have settled its price dispute with Loblaw. This report in the Financial Post says shipments of Dorito, Tostito, Miss Vickies and other chips will resume Monday and see stores fully stocked by Easter.

Metro warehouse workers end walkout as contract signed

The union, Unifor, says 900 employees at the Metro supermarket distribution warehouse in Etobicoke are back to work this weekend after approving a new contract. It means that fresh produce is now being restocked at Metro and Food Basics stores. Under the new agreement, workers will receive an average pay increase of 15.8 percent over the next four and a half years, starting with a $2.25 per hour increase in the first year paid retroactively to Oct. 24, 2021.

Wong-Tam to quit Council, seek election to Ont Legislature

Krystyn Wong-Tam will leave City Council and run for the NDP in the downtown riding of Toronto Centre in the provincial general election in June. She has served on Council since 2010. Her statement Friday said “it is with much gratitude and love that I announce that I will not be seeking re-election for City Council in October. Furthermore, after a great deal of consideration and conversations with my family and close friends, I have decided to put my name forward to seek the NDP nomination to become the next Member of Provincial Parliament for Toronto Centre.” Ms Wong-Tam was born in Hong Kong in 1971 and came to Canada by her parents in 1975. Police at 53 Division say Thursday the investigation into the discovery of a body in Yellow Creek in Deer Park is ongoing. No further information has been released. It appears further information may await the results of an autopsy.

Fresh produce is in short supply at Metro and Food Basics stores across the City as 900 workers at the firm’s distribution centre continue a strike. But negotiation Thursday between the company and unions has resulted in a tentative agreement which will be voted on Friday.

Bizarre traffic death as woman lies down on Lansdowne Ave

A woman has died in a bizarre traffic accident on Lansdowne Ave near Lappin Ave early Tuesday after she walked into the middle of the street and apparently intentionally, lay down on the road. There is no indication of who witnessed this part of the incident but shortly after the driver of a TTC maintenance truck mistook the woman for a garbage bag. As he approached, the woman tried but failed to roll out of the way of the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing. Police are looking for any witnesses who were in the area at the time of the incident, particularly those with dashcam video.
