The sale of subsidiary Lord and Taylor’s building in Manhattan has set off speculation about its debt-burdened parent Hudson’s Bay Co. HBC is Canada’s oldest corporation. Then, Fats Domino, that happy musical soul from the 1950s is dead at 89. Below that, as predicted, Xi Jinping will rip up the Chinese constitution, such as it was, and become another Dear Leader type staying on at the top into unknown times. Ugh. Finally, 245 men and woman in Brazil have leaped off a bridge together for fun. Take a look.

Canadian Press reports that the Bank of Canada has left its interest rate unchanged at one percent Wednesday after raising it twice this year. CP says Governor Stephen Poloz also signalled that future hikes are likely on the horizon but may occur at a more tentative rate. He said the respite from a rate increase was prompted by the recent strength of the Canadian dollar and a desire to slow the rise in the speed of inflation.

Health Canada has recalled as many as 61,000 dishwashers made by Bosch, Thermador, Gaggenau, Kenmore and Jenn-Air. They were made between January 2013 and May 2015 and are being recalled because the power cords can overheat and possibly spark a fire. Pictures show the recalled washers and their serial numbers. There have been no injuries reported, but Health Canada says there are five reports of property damage in the United States, where 408,000 affected dishwashers have been sold. Anyone who owns one of these dishwashers is advised to stop using it immediately and call the Safety Recall Hotline at 1-888-965-5813 for a free inspection and repair.

A man desribed as blind and elderly is in hospital in Hamilton and gas is shut off to 200 homes as a precaution after an explosion in east central Hamilton Tuesday. It happened on Gibson Ave. about 2.15 p.m. when the front of a one-storey home near Birch Ave. and Barton St. erupted scattering debris across the street. The man was briefly trapped. His condtion is unknown at posting.

Upper left, this smart looking 56 Ford was gracing the parking lot at Leaside arena last weekend as those it is attached to played hockey. It has 1950s whitewall tires too. To the right, the leaning sign of Belsize Drive outside COBs needs some help. The Councillor’s office has been notified because he can make the wheels at the Toronto Clamshell move faster. Below that, another sign left out for the garbage on Roxborough St. was quickly taken. It says “The Party Stop Is Here.” Finally at bottom Rudy Limeback (@rudydotca) took this ghostly shot of a vestige of the Canada Varnish Company (Canvarco) this summer. It’s still there on Canvarco Drive but for how long.

Mr. Justice Howard Borenstein has dismissed all charges against former Liberal CEO Pat Sorbara and Sudbury businessman Gerry Lougheed on the grounds that the Crown did not have enough evidence to convict them of bribery under the election act. Central to this interpretation was the defense claim that a bribe must be offered to a person who is a confirmed candidate, not just someone seeking a nomination, for the act to apply. The defence team for former Liberal CEO Pat Sorbara and Sudbury businessman Gerry Lougheed had been arguing for the last year that they should have never have been charged with bribery. They formally asked Borenstein to declare them not guilty two weeks ago and he took it under consideration. Today they are cleared of all charges. The Crown contended that someone is a candidate as soon as he or she announces an intention to run and that the law should protect the electoral process from bribery from the very beginning.

The Teen Safety Community Town Hall scheduled for Tuesday evening begins at 7 p.m. at Rosedale United Church at Glen Rd.and Roxborough Dr. Interest in the meeting perked up a lot Monday when the Star mentioned it in passing and so did The Bulldog. Readers were perplexed at finding nothing online at either the North Rosedale Residents site or Rosedale United Church. An Air Canada flight landed at San Francisco airport Sunday after it had been told not to by traffic controllers who were uncertain if the runway was fully clear. The landing was uneventful but it seems the Air Canada crew did not reply to radio transmissions nor to a so-called “red-light gun” alert used to communicate with planes when the radio fails. Air Canada has so far not commented. The flight originated in Montreal. CBC

This is instructive video shown on City News of two men dashing out into Parkside Drive without any real consideration of whether running fast will really get them there. For one of the two, the dash just doesn’t do it. He bounces off the front of a car that wasn’t even on his limited radar.  Luckily he’ll be okay.

The weekend work of shoppers at the Fairview Mall in Sears (and other locations across Canada) is being clucked-clucked about on Twitter while at the same time others say it’s not as bad as the mess made at Target.
