Police asking help in identifying a man who verbally abused and threatened passengers on a streetcar at approximately 4:35 p.m. He engaged two men, strangers to him,:in conversation  on the Dundas Streetcar near University Avenue.  He quickly became hostile making threats towards the woman  The women reported the threats to the driver and got off the streetcar  The man also exited the streetcar and was last seen fleeing southbound on University Avenue  He is described as 5’10, with a medium build, shaved hair, wearing a black hooded jacket, black athletic pants with a white horizontal stripe, white t-shirt with black writing, black framed sunglasses, and a black baseball hat, with a red, green and gold logo. He was also carrying a beige backpack and a brown paper bag. He is seen below.

A rent strike starting May 1 by Parkdale tenants of MetCap Management is no doubt being watched carefully in Thorncliffe Park, Flemingdon Park and other high rental neighbourhoods across the City. MetCap has threatened to evict tenants if they don’t pay their rent, including the increase. As issue are increases in rent justified by so-called Above Guideline Increase (AGI). These are rent increases for authorized improvements which permit a landlord to raise rents above the rent control guidelines in order to cover the cost. Many tenants see AGI applications as a pretext to raise rents. MetCap manages 19 apartment buildings in Parkdale and five are facing rent increases. Twitter is afire Sunday evening with hockey fans at home and in the U.S. congratulating Edmonton Oilers fans for singing the US national anthem with enthusiasm when the PA system failed. One fan tweeted “hockey fans in the USA should take notice.” “The Edmonton Oilers fans sing an awesome rendition of The Star Spangled Banner, ” said another. “Golly, those Canadian folks are friendly to belt out the Star Spangled Banner as well as Oh Canada. Great job”, said Jeff Ulmer. The Oilers lead the series two games to one after the Ducks defeated them 6-3 Sunday. Twitter

Mondelez International, owner of Christie’s, has discontinued Dad’s chocolate chip cookies and the product is finally disappearing from store shelves never, it seems, to return. The original Dad’s oatmeal and oatmeal chocolate chip milk-dippers are still being made. They date from 1929. The Dad’s brand is only available in Canada. It was created by the Sturges family in Los Angeles. Their winning formula for an oatmeal cookie took off in both Canada and the U.S. The U.S. franchises eventually went out of business and, in 1972, three Canadian franchises joined forces to create the Dad’s Cookie Company. It introduced the chocolate chip version in the early 1980s. In 1986, Dad’s became part of U.S.-based Nabisco, then in 2012 they were gobbled up by Mondelēz International, one of the largest snacks companies worldwide. But sales dwindled in the face of a world that has more brands of chocolate chip cookies than a tree has leaves.

Toronto Police are requesting help in locating a Jack Russell Terrier named Mary which was apparently stolen after escaping from her leash at home April 14 in the Greenwood Avenue and Gerrard Street East area  She was last seen in the Pape Avenue and Danforth Avenue area where she was picked up by a woman driving a white Toyota  Mary is a rescue dog and will run if chased.

A man has died in a fire at a senior’s home at 53 McHardy Place near Main Street North and Queen Street West in Brampton early Sunday. The victim. 71, lived on the fourth floor where he was found without vital signs outside a bedroom where the fire is believed to have started.
