Toronto MOH says third Ontario virus patient in London

The case of coronavirus (2019-nCoV) has been confirmed in a patient in London, Ontario bringing the total in the province to three. Toronto Medical Officer of Health Eileen de Villa said the news does not change the situation in Toronto where two cases are confirmed. “I will let you know directly if this changes,” said the MOH. “I want to remind Toronto residents that, at this time, the risk to our community remains low.”

RioCan gives $19M to service huge Eglinton/Laird growth

Geoff Kettel, co-president of Leaside Residents Association, says that RioCan Inc. will give $19 million to the City as a form of compensation for its large development planned at the southeast corner of Laird Drive and Eglinton Ave. The area has been known as RioCan Leaside Centre and among other businesses contains a Canadian Tire store. The money will be spent to build a daycare centre for the area and other as-yet undecided services to support the increased population in east Leaside caused by the development. The cash is part of an overall settlement resulting from mediation which saw two towers originally planned at 36 and 38 storeys reduced to 34 and 29 storeys. The development will contain increased commercial space and parkland.

She picks up dropped key to Audi Q3 SUV and drives away

Toronto Police tell the story Thursday of how a woman dropped the fob to her nice white Audi Q3 SUV only to see another woman stoop down and pick it up. Finders keepers apparently. The second woman leaped into the Audi and drove off, nearly hitting the frantic owner. We see the alleged SUV thief in a security capture released by the TPS. The vehicle was recovered but a wallet with cash and credit cards was gone. The woman is described as being in her 30s with a slim build. The incident occurred back in April near Eglinton Ave and Keele St. The delay in publishing the picture is not explained.

5G super speed will come with a forest of even uglier towers

Tim’s retreat as it drops Beyond Meat from Ontario menu

Tim Hortons has issued a release to say it has stopped selling Beyond Meat products at its coffee and doughnut shops across Ontario and BC. Reports are a little vague but it appears that demand can no longer justify the meat substitute burgers at the chain. Tim’s has been serving both the Beyond Burger and a Beyond Meat breakfast sandwich made with the company’s imitation sausage products. While the items had originally been available across Canada at nearly 4,000 locations, they were scaled back in September to just Ontario and BC. Now they’re gone completely.

Deal with Devil? UK lets Huawei do 5G but with restrictions

The UK government will permit Huawei to participate in mind-boggling 5G network construction but with limits that prevent the Chinese telecom mammoth from stealing secrets. Phooey say many government MPs. There’s no controlling Huawei, they insist. Meantime, the CBC report below is about as scary as it gets on what Huawei might actually do someday. Meanwhile, the government is still thinking about 5G. Australia has already said no thanks to 5G Huawei.
