The Leaside Garden Society will meet Monday, February 13. The guest speaker will be Toronto naturalist Miles Hearn. His subject will be common weeds. Three Ontario universities and colleges are warning students and the public of fake notices circulating, which supposedly report positive novel coronavirus cases on each of the institution’s campuses. They are Ryerson, McMaster and Durham College. “Ryerson University is aware that there are fake social media posts alleging that students have been admitted to hospital with the coronavirus today. There are no cases of coronavirus at Ryerson,” the university tweeted on Monday, referencing an image circulating online that claims that two students have tested positive for the virus.

The wife of the Wuhan traveller who arrived home in Toronto with the coronavirus infection is also in isolation for the disease. She is at the couple’s home while tests continue to confirm that she and her husband do indeed have the virus. “Since arriving in Toronto with her husband, this individual has been in self-isolation,” a statement from the provincial government says. The two landed in Toronto January 22.

A man in his 50s who travelled to Toronto from Wuhan, China earlier this week is now in isolation at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. As heard in this City News report, Dr. David Williams, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health, says the case is considered “presumptive positive” until the National Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg finds the same positive results as the tests conducted in Toronto.
She surrenders 97 cats on eviction from Guelph apartment

A woman has surrendered 97 cats she kept in a two-bedroom apartment on Huron St. in Guelph because she was being evicted from the unit. A report in Guelph Today indicates the landlord had acted because of the damage done to the plumbing system by kitty litter being poured down the drain. He told GT it would cost $20,000 to clean and make repairs to the apartment.

A car owner has lost the vehicle and a pet dog after leaving the 2006 silver BMW X3 (licence plate BYXX 637) with the motor running outside a convenience store about 11:20 p.m. last night at McCowan Rd and Eglinton Ave. The dog is a young female tan coloured Black Mouth Cur weighing 60lbs.
