90s music rebirth as Big Wheel cranks Gen Y up to 35 or 40
by •
Lots of fun here with the CBC’s Eli Glasner enjoying the lively presence (return?) of music from the 1990s. The CBC YouTube tag line asks What’s driving the latest ’90s nostalgia? but it’s just clickbait. Glasner never asks or answers it. That’s okay because we already know this revival is about the Big Wheel of Life slowly making all these Gen Y folks middle aged. Good listenng.

by •
A man has posted video which shows a thief rummaging through a family car parked outside the home on Bessborough Dr just north or Parkhurst Blvd. Friday night. The writer says the thief went up and down the street. This occurred about 8.40 p.m. which seems extraordinarily reckless of the thief. Not much to see on the video but a cautionary post. Car was not locked.
Woman asks FB how to escape cigarette smoke of neighbor
by •
Facebook as a corporation is accused of many infringements of privacy but in South Bayview there seem to be few things that users are not prepared to share publicly. This day witnesses a growing interaction among neighbors and a woman who is asking for help on how to escape the cigarette smoke created by the people in the semi-detached home next door. There are many sympathetic responses and one man, a general contractor, offers ideas on how to seal the home along the common perimeter. In the end however the truth is posted by another woman who says: “As long as they are on their property, there’s nothing you can do.”

Police and community members will celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the ProAction Hockey League at Angela James Arena in Flemingdon Park on Sunday. Officers from 55 Division, who coach and mentor youth, have seen the program grow from 64 to 148 kids, many of whom would never have had the opportunity to play hockey because of the high cost of the ice time, equipment and league costs. ProAction Cops and Kids was founded by in 1991 by businessman John Bitove Sr. It is a non-profit agency that provides funding for programs that connect police officers with young people. Social time at 3 p.m. with the puck drop at 3:30 p.m. at the James Arena at 165 Grenoble Dr. Follow the league at Twitter @TPS55div and @TPSVicentino.
Saudi teen with refugee status lands at Pearson Saturday
by •
A Saudi teen who was granted asylum in Canada after fleeing from her allegedly abusive family arrived in Toronto Saturday morning. Her flight from Seoul, South Korea, landed a day after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his government would accept 18-year-old Rahaf Mohammed Alqunun as a refugee. The young woman fled her family while visiting Kuwait and flew to Bangkok, where she barricaded herself in an airport hotel and launched a Twitter campaign that drew global attention to her case. Canada should not turn Saudi teen into a ‘political football,’ says former ambassador
Toy bomb just fun or playtime with tool of terror, madness?
by •
Watch the bomb count down, try to defuse it. Oh too bad, you got it wrong. Now you’re legless like Uncle Harry when he ran in the Boston Marathon. Is there anything to like about this toy?

Playground outlook, Mrs. Bright retires and Tim’s goes dark
by •
Jillian Walsh tells The Bulldog that the makeover of the playground (top) in Trace Manes Park is expected to start in the Spring of 2019. It had been hoped that the City might begin the planned (and fully-funded) renewal of the old playground last fall. The modern playground will honour the memory of six-year-old Georgia Walsh. At centre left, Colette Bright, the much-loved head secretary of St. Anselm Catholic School will retire at the end of January after 17 years of devoted service. There is a nice profile of Mrs. Bright in Leaside Life written by Susan Scandiffio. To the right is the long-time Tim Hortons at Danforth and Logan Ave as it was until a few weeks ago. The place is now closed with little explanation from head office. Below that, a reminder of Liz Johnston’s weekly Wednesday story-telling for toddlers over at Mabel’s Fables. Get a three-year old to take you there next week. Bottom left, Kindergarten Information Night is coming at Davisville Public School. DPS is now located temporarily on Vaughan Rd. And finally, these smiling faces are the Bantam Development Stream (White) Wildcats happy with their Silver win at the Guelph Girl’s Hockey Tournament last weekend. The Bulldog hopes to see you on the Junior team some day soon.

Some 23 others were injured when the bus hit a passenger deck at a transit station. Golden Knights yank season tickets if they’re re-sold online
by •
Out-of-town season ticket holders of the Vegas Golden Knights are finding that the club is aribitrarily cancelling their purchases. A BC man got this treatment when he tried to sell a couple of games online. What’s up? Next to that on the Video Wheel, the National Enquirer is splashing around in the dirty laundry of Jess Bezos. CNN seems to think that’s because Bezos is owner of the Washngton Post, a fierce critic of Donald Trunp. Below that, City News attends a memorial for the clothing bin victim Crystal Papineau. And lastly, the BBC ponders darkly about just what the exhausting job of being an Internet star is doing to us as a race. Serious stuff.
