Man dies on pavement at Jarvis/Shuter Sunday morning

Police report a man has died on the pavement at Jarvis and Shuter Sts. Sunday morning. He was apparently found sometime after 9 a.m. in what was called “obvious distress.” The Toronto Police Operations Twitter account confirmed just before 11 a.m. that the death is not suspicious.

Medical case possible as car hits Subway in Scarborough

Police say the driver of a car that smashed into the front of a Subway store on Saturday may have suffered a medical incident. His vehicle also hit other cars in the parking lot at Woodside Square mall at Finch Ave. and Sandhurst Circle. The driver was admitted to hospital with serious injuries while a woman with him was assessed at the scene.

CAR INTO CHURCH OF THE REDEEMER

Two people were said to have serious injuries after a car smacked into the Church of the Redeemer at Bloor West and Avenue Rd. about 7.15 Sunday morning. A third person was also treated at the scene.

Thousands head downtown Sunday for Santa Claus Parade

Street closures are in effect Sunday in preparation for the 114th annual Santa Claus Parade. The parade starts at 12:30 p.m. at Bloor and Christie streets. It then heads down Bloor to Queen’s Park Crescent East, University Avenue, and ends at Front and Jarvis streets between 3 and 4 p.m. Ahead of the parade, runners will spread their merriment in the Holly Jolly Fun Run. The five-kilometre run starts at 11:45 a.m. on Bloor Street between Manning and Euclid avenues, and ends at Maple Leaf Square. This year, everyone who finishes the run will receive a medal.

Mayor Tory seeks answers to Crescent Town bridge failure

Mayor Tory said Saturday that he will getting answers about the state of the jointly owned pedestrian bridge that crumbled before dawn, leaving a gaping hole in the crossing between a condo and Crescent Town Elementary School in East York. Investigation indicates that the collapse occurred on the side of the bridge owned by Pinedale Properties. Fire officials said it appeared there had been previous additional support given to the bridge. The undamaged half of the bridge is owned by the Toronto District School Board. The Star reports that the fire service was called after 6 a.m. about concrete that had fallen from the underside of the bridge. When they arrived, there was a hole in the bridge, which stands 5 metres off the ground The bridge is used by students to and from get to the school. Mr. Tory visited the school and tweeted later that it was a miracle no one was hurt. “I will be making inquiries of (TDSB and Pinedale) as to how the bridge got into this state including a review of repairs done in the past year,” he said. “I will also be asking questions about inspections done on this bridge (and) others like it.”

Crumbling infrastructure at Victoria Park and Danforth Aves. as a pedestrian bridge used daily by school kids starts to fall apart. No one was hurt but a man about to walk underneath narrowly missed getting hit by falling concrete. CP24

No winning ticket sold for $55 million Lotto Max jackpot

No winning ticket was sold for the $55 million jackpot in Friday night’s Lotto Max draw. However, three of the draw’s Maxmillions prizes of $1 million each were claimed by ticket holders in Ontario and the Prairies. There seems to be some fretting about a possible coverup regarding the bullying video described by police as pornography. The video does indeed sound terrible but that definition seems unlikely to have occurred to the youthful perpetrators who have now been expelled from St. Michael’s College School. The administration learned of the video on Monday and called police Wednesday. Information provided today tells of eight explusions, not ten as rumoured among students.

Gas leak at Mortimer and Pape capped, street re-opened

A natural gas leak from a half-inch pipe that closed Mortimer Ave. at Pape Ave. Friday morning has been safely capped and the street re-opened to traffic, police and fire sources say.
