Tickets in Ontario, BC share $70 million Lotto Max jackpot

After going unclaimed for weeks, the $70 million Lotto Max jackpot has finally been won. A ticket sold in British Columbia and another in Ontario will share the grand prize, each taking $35 million in Tuesday night’s draw. In addition, there are 46 Maxmillion prize winners. Twenty-one winning tickets were sold in Ontario, 11 in B.C., 10 in Quebec and four in the Prairies. The jackpot for the next draw on June 25 will be an estimated $50 million, with two Maxmillion prizes of $1 million each up for grabs — City News.

SERRA war cry to fight over-development at Canada Square

SERRA, the South Eglinton Ratepayers and Residents Association, has issued a battle cry to members and friends over plans to increase the density of the Canada Square site by as much as 250 percent. This is City-owned land on the southwest corner of Yonge and Eglinton which will be redeveloped as the Eglinton LRT is completed. The redevelopment is planned by Oxford Properties. That’s the pension plan of Ontario Municipal Employees.  SERRA is asking residents for support at a critical meeting next Monday (June 28) at the Planning and Housing Committee (PHC). Buses crowd Mt. Pleasant as Yonge useless with bike dream

The dream of single-lane car traffic accompanied by bicycle lanes on Yonge St. reduced Toronto’s main drag to a useless construction zone Saturday. The work coincided with the closure of eight stations on the Yonge line forcing heavy articulated shuttle buses to use Mt. Pleasant Rd.

The issue of re-making Yonge St and in particular the mass confusion of Saturday’s events are a social media subject for many.

Tribute paid to friend of Bayview Ave Hannelore Mohring

A long-time resident, businesswoman and dear friend of many in the Bayview community has died. Hannelore Mohring passed on Tuesday. She had latterly been a member of the Bayview Pixies garden and community team. The Pixies Debora Kuchme published this tribute.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear friend Hannelore Mohring who peacefully passed on Tuesday June 15. Well-known for her many years as a restauranteur at the Deli-Cafe on Bayview (1961-1985) and as the grand dame of the Bayview Pixies, she was an inspiration of joy and positive life force to all who knew her. Line 1 detour, bike lanes on Yonge and Mt. Pleasant shuttle

The closure of Line 1 between Finch Ave. and St Clair Ave this weekend (June 19 and 20) has seen articulated TTC shuttle buses pounding up Mt. Pleasant early Saturday. Readers may draw their own conclusions about why the buses aren’t on Yonge St. Bicycle lane installation continues there. This last change has seen heated social media complaints.
