South Leaside, Rosedale and Moore Park residents seeking a first C-19 vaccine shot can now make an appointment at the Rexall pharmacy at 325 Moore Ave. This is a new location apparently added in recent days as the government ramped up more drugstore vaccination sites. They’re offering the AstraZeneca shot to people 55 and over. Other local sites are the Shoppers Drug Mart stores on Bayview Ave and Mt. Pleasant Rd. south of Eglinton. Make an appointment here
10,000 vaccination appointments cancelled by lack of serum

Canada’s wobbly position in the vaccine world is all too obvious as clinics across Toronto delay appointments because there just isn’t any vaccine.
No haircut? It’s a lot like no shower or bath for many men
by •
We think it’s fair to say that a simple necessity of life for many men is getting a haircut every few weeks. And the truth is that the closure of barbershops has created a large underground haircut market. The same is true of hair service for women. Here’s one man who is advertising home haircuts on his car. It was seen on Avenue Road by Yonge and Roxborough News.

Matlow calls for beer, wine and cider in parks
Ward 12 Councillor Josh Matlow is calling for legalized drinking in City parks between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. from May 21 to October 31. The proposed pilot project would evidently ban hard liquor. Matlow contends those without private outdoor places to drink like backyards and balconies need such an opportunity in the park. It would be an interesting new job for the police. Canadian Press

A plan has been submitted to build at one of the most familiar corners in East York. It calls for the demolition of the Beer Store on the southwest corner and the construction of a seven-storey mixed-use building containing both residential and retail. Moore Park Residents AGM is set for Wednesday, May 26
by •
The Moore Park Residents Association (MPRA) will hold its 2021 Annual General Meeting Wednesday, May 26, at 7:30 p.m. by video conference. Guest speakers will include Councillor Mike Layton. MPRA members will receive email with details and a Zoom link. Current members (or new members) of the MPRA can vote at the AGM. Among the many issues of interest raised in a newsletter Sunday is concern that people are breaching the construction fences at the new playground at Moorevale Park. And Past President Chris Lowry has written an account of some of the neighbourhood’s notable residents over the years.
As the application process for Moore Park to become a Heritage Conservation District is ongoing, it’s interesting to think about the remarkable history of our neighborhood. Everyone who lives in this area enjoys the rich variety of houses and gardens, representing 130 years of evolving architectural taste. Moore Park’s remarkable heritage homes have attracted a wide variety of famous people to live here, from rock stars to members of the royal family, including: actress Gina Lollobrigida, literary scholar Northrop Frye, physicist and educator Ursula Franklin, World War One flying ace Billy Bishop, co-discoverer of insulin Sir Frederick Banting, Lady Iris Mountbatten (granddaughter of Queen Victoria), sculptors Frances Loring and Florence Wylie, composers Healey Willan and Haygood Hardy, the photographers Ashley and Crippen, and, when they were children, both Jim Cuddy (Blue Rodeo) and one of our most famous Canadians, Neil Young (between Omomee and Winnipeg, enroute to L.A.).

Musk’s monkey plays video games
They say Elon Musk can visualize bringing prehistoric creatures back from centuries of extinction. But for the time being, he’s implanting chips in the brains of monkeys to give them superb game-playing skills. Will this pan out as well as the electric car?
Hilarious Melissa and the crab arms
Melissa McCarthy’s infectious humour is so entertaining it can make people giggly about crab arms. Have a good weekend.
