Inhabit Books to open on Mt. Pleasant near Mabel’s Fables

Inhabit Books, a Canadian company that publishes and sells children’s books on Inuit life will open a store at 612 Mt. Pleasant Rd. Window signs indicate that the firm has leased the quaint double-store location which was occupied by the Little Doll House Company for so many years. An earlier post contained incorrect information that Inhabit intended to open other stores. It does not.

Mable’s Fables hoping to re-open soon

The Inhabit store will be a block away from Mabel’s Fables Children’s Bookstore at Mt. Pleasant Rd. and Hillsdale Ave. and across the street from Mastermind, yet another frequent stop for parents and friends shopping for children. Mabel’s Fables remains closed because of safety considerations related to the pandemic. It hopes to re-open soon. Mabel’s continues to take calls and fill orders for curbside pickup. A source said that the firm’s efforts to negotiate a new lease was in abeyance for the time being.

Tip-toe over to the butterflyway canoe at Leaside Library

If you’re out for a walk, be sure to pass by Leaside Library’s red canoe at McRae Drive and Rumsey Road. There will likely be a butterfly or two visiting the colourful scene. As part of David Suzuki Foundation’s Butterflyway Project, these pollinator friendly gardens are filled with native wildflowers, creating highways of habitat for beneficial bugs. The project has taken root in more than 100 communities throughout the country. We’re a fan. davidsuzuki.org/butterflyway.

Scorching hot Monday with maybe a thunderstorm tonight

Mind if I sit on your porch and scope out the place a little?

Many neighbourhoods in the City of Toronto have been free of COVID-19 for more than three weeks. Others have had only single-digit cases in the same period. But the City remains in Stage 2 until at least until the end of the month because of the continuing spread of the infection in the far west and east parts. An interactive map shows the numbers. Bear boogie, Buffalo Jays, Tokyo ’21 and Brit fatties ad ban

A high-definition trail camera in Oxford County, Maine has captured what we’re calling the bear boogie. That’s what it looks but as the video progresses, it’s plain this big bruiser is trying to scratch its back. Then, we’re not sure if you can get a ticket to the stadium, but the Blue Jays will be playing in Buffalo this year. The Bisons are the Jays triple-A team. Below that, efforts are underway to re-stage the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo next summer. Interesting that so many folks in the Japanese capital don’t care. Finally, no more fast-food ads on TV before 9 p.m. as the UK government declares that too many stout-hearted Brits are just plain fat.
