OMB says boat-sized treehouse can stay if it is changed
by •
Nearly a year ago, John Alpeza was told by the City to take down the 108-square-foot treehouse in his Bloor West Village backyard. But last week the Ontario Municipal Board set aside the City of Toronto’s order and ruled Alpeza can keep his treehouse if he lowers it, moves it a bit and builds a new fence. According to the CBC report below, these changes have caused at least one neighbor to change his mind about the big play space. He now likes it. Just how Mr. Alpeza, a contractor, moves the treehouse is a good question. It sits on a dead tree. But the OMB has ruled and house that thrilled the Alpeza children will stay. CBC CITY: Sailing-boat sized treehouse must come down
Lonely TD staff take themselves up to Glendon Campus

Hilary Chan of Canada Trust TD Bank was tweeting Monday about efforts to create some interest (business?) at the off-site event up at the Glendon Campus of York University. Thing is, Hilary and her colleagues come from Branch 1918 down the street at 1860 Bayview at Broadway. TD bravely opened its branch there pretty much before anyone else was around. You have to start somewhere. The new branch may be quiet. But look, you have to start somewhere and we give these hardy folks credit for trying to build. As soon as the Whole Foods store opens there, and Shoppers Drug Mart arrives (where are they anyway?) things should be a bit livelier at 1860 Bayview.

Thin ice on West Don a hazard to dogs and their owners
by •
The death of a dog in the Don West River Monday morning has brought warnings for pet owners about the dangers of playing on ice. The animal died when it fell through ice and was swept underneath thicker ice and drowned. Toronto Fire was called to the area behind Sunnybrook Hospital about 8.15 a.m. on reports of a large dog that had fallen into the River. The area is a popular off leash location for owners.
Reader writes snow-filled sidewalk hazard is preventable
by •
Concerned South Bayview resident, Elliot Fine, reminds us to clear our snow. He wrote a letter to our Councillor Matlow and The Bulldog on January 3rd:
My wife was out walking 2 days ago on Soudan Avenue when she came across a senior who had slipped and fallen on a sidewalk that was uncleared. This was on the north side between #420 and #440 Soudan. Fortunately several people were able to help this lady get on her feet and home. I don’t know if she ended up in hospital but I am positive she sustained some sort of injury. In this area there were several houses with uncleared snow and ice. This scenario is all too common and as we both approach our 7th decade it is a real worry.I have slipped many times, broken my ankle once on ice many years ago and have slipped more times than I can remember. Up to now nothing super serious has happened.
Seniors and people with physical disabilities can apply to the City for a free snow removal service. The application form can be found here. Toronto.ca reminds us that it is not only dangerous, but can also be costly if you don’t clear your sidewalks. “Failure to do so could result in a fine of $100.00 plus $25.00 surcharge, total $125.00 as per Municipal Code Chapter 719.” Be nice, clear your ice.

Naughty Matheroo girls off to Las Vegas says Sun writer
by •
The naughty Matharoo sisters, Jyoti and Kiran, have a court date on January 26 to settle up for their alleged shenanigans in the Nigerian capital of Lagos. According to a comprehensive account by Brad Hunter of the Toronto Sun, the two fun-loving women plan to visit Las Vegas if and when they are permitted to leave Nigeria. It seems likely they will be on their way shortly however.
CRIMINAL UNDERTAKINGS
Hunter says the two have signed criminal undertakings confessing to blackmailing and cyberbullying more than 200 men. They have also agreed never to return to the west African nation. Whether the vaunted discretion of the Nevada hotspot will apply to these two — Whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas — remains an open question. The authorities have seen it all in Sin City. Hunter provides some background on Jyoti and Kiran.
VOLUPTUOUS SURGERY
He says they are reportedly the daughters of a Rexdale cab driver who attended Don Bosco Catholic Secondary School in Toronto. Jyoti is said to have graduated in 2003 and Kiran in 2004. Just how they gathered their reputed 50,000 Instagram followers may be an easy guess for those with an imagination. The pictures are said to be lively to say the least. Take a look at Hunter’s story in which he tells of plastic surgery to make Jyoti more voluptuous. Toronto Sun
