Leaside Junior Wildcats will return to the ice Wednesday for an exhibition game against the Ryerson Rams women at Mattamy Arena in the MLG building at Carlton and Church. This match up is an annual event and is a chance for those who haven’t seen the facility at Mattamy to take a look. The puck drops at 5.30  The regular season schedule of the Provincial Women’s Hockey league resumes for the Cats on the weekend of January 14-15 when they meet Burlington and Kitchener at Leaside arena. The Wildcats are currently sitting 7th in the 20-team PWHL.

Two aircraft touched at the wing tips Tuesday night at Pearson Airport. A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight was taxiing to its gate at around 6 p.m. when its wing touched the wing of a parked Air France jet. An Air France spokesperson said that their departing flight was cancelled as a result of the incident. The extent of damage remains uncertain.

Police have posted a Youtube video showing a mentally disturbed woman climbing up onto two cruisers and stomping on the hood and roof of the vehicles. In the second case, she kicks in the rear window and falls inside the car. Then she walks about the corner of Finch Ave. W. and Milady Rd. with police circling her before being taken into custody in a brief struggle. Police are praising the care with which this matter was handled. The officers were PC Christopher Lemieux and PC David Donaldson. The woman was taken to Etobicoke General Hospital. There is vulgar language on this video.

The newly-opened McDonald’s at the Vatican has caused some distress not related to soggy fries. The restaurant, unlike branches of other fast food outlets, is actually in a Vatican building. It isn’t as if the Pope himself collects the rent, but some feel that way. And upstairs are apartments occupied by Cardinals. You can imagine. So far no word on menu changes to accommodate a Big Francis.

Ford Motor Company will reverse its plan to invest $1.6 billion in Mexico and instead spend the money in the U.S. Ford will however proceed with plans to build the new Ford Focus at an existing plant in Hermosillo, Mexico. The decision comes after president elect Trump threatened to apply a 35 per cent tax on Ford cars from Mexico. He has now apparently made the same threat to General Motors. Ford’s turnaround means that a slew of new electric models to be built in the next five years including a Mustang Hybrid will be built in U.S. plants

Megyn Kelly, Fox News prime time anchor, will join NBC News says Andrew Lack, Chairman of the NBC Universal News Group Tuesday. Kelly will become the anchor of a new one-hour daytime program that she will develop closely with NBC News colleagues. The show will air Monday through Friday at a time to be announced in the coming months, according to a statement to NBC affiliates. During the 2016, 2014 and 2012 presidential elections and midterm elections, Kelly served as co-anchor of FNC’s America’s Election HQ. She has moderated multiple presidential primary debates, including most notably the first Republican primary debate in August 2015.

Shocking video published at New Year’s by a couple in Utah shows their son trapped under a fallen dresser, and his twin brother finally figuring out a way to help. The video is published on the Consumerist website and on YouTube by the parents.

Beijing is undergoing a dense smog that is said to making people deeply depressed. The video shows a time lapse of the creation of the smog. It looks a bit like a combination of the City’s terrible air plus a wave of sand from the Gobi Desert. Next, the heart-wrenching tragedy of people in lawless North Africa is seen in the attempt to smuggle a man in a suitcase into Spain’s African enclave and thence onto Europe. He suffered lack of oxygen and who knows what other deprivation. Millions are trying to flee Africa where Libya has been left in chaos by the Arab Spring debacle.

And in Mexico, there is growing apprehension that the Trump administration will stop or slow the billions in U.S. dollars sent back home by undocumented workers to their relatives.

A Whitby man who bought himself a Sony Playstation VR headset for Christmas and found only dirty laundry and a couple of water bottles inside is having a hard time convincing Walmart that his story is true. The man, P.J. Mazzonna, 21, used Christmas money from his family to buy the headset. It came in a sealed package from a locked display case. But Mazzonna says when he got it home there was nothing inside but a dirty T-shirt, two bottles of water, glass cleaner and a demo disc. He has been back to Walmart and the manager heard him out. But a few days later the manager called Mazzonna and suggested he was trying to scam the store. That’s pretty much where it stands, except Walmart says it is continuing to investigate. CBC

Mayor Tory has asked Premier Wynne to let TTC special constables to direct traffic and issue tickets. The open letter conveys the approval of this scheme by the TTC board on December 20. But any such extended power requires a change to the Highway Traffic Act and the Provincial Offences Act. In his letter, which is dated Jan. 2, Tory says he believes that giving the TTC’s 50 enforcement officers the power to direct traffic during service disruptions will “keep transit and traffic as a whole moving and ensure that TTC riders get more reliable service.” Tory also says that by giving TTC enforcement officers the power to direct traffic, Toronto police officers will be freed up top focus on “other key priority areas.” Special constables employed by GO Transit and Ottawa’s OC Transpo already have similar powers as the ones being requested by Tory.
